So you've got yourself an iPhone. Finally. It's cool, it's cutting edge, it's...expensive. Now that you've taken the plunge, it's a good idea to obtain a case to protect your investment from the bumps, grinds and scratches of everyday life.

iPhone cases come in many styles and are made with a host of different materials. Some are trendy, sporting cute designs. Some are made of rubberized plastic while others are slim silicone shells providing the minimum of cover.

The most elegant iPhone cases, however, have to be those made of leather. In addition to a handsome look, leather iPhone cases do a great job of cushioning your phone.

Apple's web site has quite a few leather iPhone cases to choose from. These include an Incase Folio for iPhone 3GS that looks much like a wallet. It can be worn on the belt, making it a great choice for men as well as women. The soft suede lining offers scratch protection for the screen. The Incase Folio retails for $39.95.

At $29.95 the Belkin leather sleeve for iPhone 3GS and 3G is simple in construction. There's a pull-tab for quick removal and a cut out window for easy viewing. Its sleek design is a plus for those who do not care for a bulky case.

The Sena Walletbook for iPhone, on the other hand, is touted as wallet and iPhone case. There are plenty of slots for ID, money and credit cards. There are also outside openings for microphone, camera and speaker openings. Available in four shades, the Walletbook is pricey at $49.95, but may be worth the extra money if one wants the convenience of having all of your wallet items in the same place as your phone.

Outside the Apple web site, there are many vendors who sell leather iPhone cases. A quick check of Staples reveals a leather holster case from Verona (Xtreme Mac) for $34.99. This attractive leather case can be hooked to belt or backpack.

For those who are looking for the protection of fine leather and the personal statement of wild colors, cases.com offers a full menu of outrageously hued leather iPhone cases. Some of the colors include hot pink, blue, red and lime green. The magnetic cases cost $59. Leather pull cases in bright colors retain at $39, and similar wallet style cases are $64. For those who admire a smooth Italian look, Tuscan leather cases are $119.

It's a good idea to visit a retailer in order to get the feel of the leather case you may be interested in. Leathers can have a wide range of textures and thicknesses depending on the manufacturer.

No matter which leather iPhone case you pick, the choice of leather for a case ensures a longer, safer life for your iPhone.
