A Review of Little Bigs in Houston, TX

A Disappointing Burger Joint

Bobbi Leder
Little Bigs in Houston, TX is a slider burger joint that for some reason is popular but for the life of me, I can't figure out why. As someone who has tasted many a burger, I can tell you that the burgers at Little Bigs are very disappointing. If you like fatty, gristly meat then this is the place for you; however, if you like your burgers to be lean with flavor and substance, then go elsewhere. Heck even McDonald's has better burgers.

Here's our full experience at Little Bigs based on our visit n March, 2010:

The interior is small and very crowded not to mention confusing. Customers order at the counter, receive a number, find a table and wait for their food to be served. Customers who ordered a fountain drink have to get that on their own along with everyone else who is squeezed into a small space trying to get their condiments and napkins.

There are tables indoors however, the majority of the tables are outdoors and are designed to look like picnic tables with the wooden benches. The problem is, the benches are nailed down and don't actually move, so if you're not overweight and want to move the table closer to you, you can't. For both my husband and I, the benches were too far away from the table which made it difficult to eat.

Though it was only March, Little Bigs in Houston, TX was extremely crowded on a Saturday afternoon. Consequently, we waited a long time to receive our food. Customers have the option of selecting one or all three of the following sliders: chicken, beef or pork. We both had the beef and we were both disappointed. The meat was so fatty, greasy, and full of gristle that it was not even edible.

So despite my hunger, I could not finish the sliders. I don't think I've ever had a burger that tasted worse and I've tried a lot of burgers in my lifetime. They come with an overabundance of caramelized onions which would have been fine on a regular sized burger but on a slider, the onions were overwhelming. I was even disappointed with the bun which tasted more like a breakfast pastry than a hamburger bun.

The order of fries was big enough for two people but unfortunately only one of us enjoyed them. They had an odd flavor that I just couldn't place so I couldn't eat the fries either. Needless to say, I left Little Bigs very disappointed and famished.

The only good thing I can say about Little Bigs is that they allow dogs on the patio. That's always a plus in my book.

If you want to try Little Bigs, go for it and let me know what you thought. We could have gone on an off day and your experience might be better.

Little Bigs is located at 2703 Montrose Boulevard, Houston, TX, 77006.Their latest location is in Hermann Park at 1600 Zoo Circle Drive.
