A Review of Lover Unbound by J.R. Ward

Lover Unbound is the fifth book in The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. This story focuses on Vischous, the most brilliant brother in the Brotherhood. He speaks a multitude of languages and is the tech geek in charge of all their electronics and surveillance equipment. Think the brain of Bill Gates meets James Bond beauty and style.

Vischous, or V as he prefers to be called, is also one of the most ruthless of all the brothers as he possesses a curse that can destroy anything he touches and the scary ability to see into the future and know what others are thinking.

V's destiny has suddenly been revealed by his all powerful mother who has been absent for centuries. While V suffers from the reality and horrors of his past and is unable to take control of his future he is wounded and ends up in the hands of a human surgeon.

Dr. Jane Whitcomb stirs feeling in V that he has never experienced before. He confesses all his dark secrets to her and for the first time indulges in real pleasure.

V is so incredibly yummy with all his hard ass appeal, dangerous tattoos and fragile psyche...all the makings of a bad boy fixer-upper and Dr. Jane has just what it takes to mend his wounds.

Yet, destiny stands in their way as Jane is a human and not welcome in the vampire world and it is much too dangerous for her to be in the mortal world knowing that vampires exist. V and Jane desperately want to make it work but everything stands in their way trying to forever keep them apart.

This has to be one of the best books in the series though it is really hard to choose a favorite because they are all so wickedly, incredibly sexy.

All of the vampire males in the Brotherhood are extremely alpha, but V is deliciously dominant on top of being alpha...oh...it makes for a hot and steamy combo.

I wasn't entirely thrilled with the ending. Jane and V's solution doesn't really fit into the traditional happily ever after ending but V seems happy so who am I to judge, right? Plus it takes care of that whole pesky thing about Jane aging and V being immortal. None of that too worry about now.

Book 6, Lover Enshrined, is scheduled for release in June 2008. It focuses on Phury, the celibate but oh so beautiful twin of Zsadist. I'm currently reading my review copy of it so I'll be typing up my review of that book soon.
