A Review of Lynchburg Legends Bar and Grill

Memphis, TN

Jacob Horn
Lynchburg Legends Bar and Grill is located at 5069 Sanderlin Avenue in Memphis, TN. The telephone number is 901-322-6666. This review is based on a visit that took place on 14 February 2011. As it has already been mentioned Lynchburg is located on Sanderlin between South Mendenhall and South White Station Road. If you are traveling on I-240 take exit 15 if you are going South or 15-B if you are traveling North. Go West on Poplar and then make a right on South White Station Road. Go past Wheelis Drive and make a left on Sanderlin and you should see the Doubletree Hotel. You can go to the Lynchburg Legends website here (lynchburglegend.wordpress.com/).

Lynchburg Legends is located in close proximity to the Fox and Hound, Muddy's Bake Shop, and the Racquet Club of Memphis. I would classify Lynchburg Legends as a laid back upscale restaurant. I would say their clientele consists primarily of business travelers who are visiting the Doubletree. The menu is pricey and you really do not get a lot of food.

My wife ordered the Blackened Catfish and I had the Delta Pleasures Pasta. Based on the description of our choices in the menu I thought we might be in heaven but that was far from the case. The Blackened Catfish had a very fishy taste. I will say that we both liked the potatoes that came with it. The Delta Pleasures Pasta was very bland. I kept waiting for a rich tasting sauce to consume my taste buds and that never happened. The shrimp that came in it were very large but they were rather bland also. We had the Jack Daniel's Wings as an appetizer and that was probably the highlight of the night. We both ordered water and bread also came with the meal.

I did feel like the service we received was above average. We had no problems with it. Our food was not rushed out to us but we did not have to wait extremely long. I should mention that the people beside us had to ask the waitress to take their food back and heat it up. Also, keep in mind that if you go to Lynchburg Legends on Monday you may get to here the Coach Pastner Show. Coach Pastner is none other than Josh Pastner (head basketball coach of the Memphis Tigers). I had a tough time trying to convince my wife that I had no idea that he was going to be there.

The Jack Daniel's Wings were $9.99. The Delta Pleasures Pasta was $16.49. The Blackened Catfish was $16.99. Unfortunately, I cannot give you the exact cost of the meal because we used a $25 Restaurant.com gift certificate. Without the gift certificate it probably would have been a little north of $55.00. With the gift certificate the total cost was $28.00 including tip and tax.

Neither my wife nor I were very impressed with Lynchburg Legends. The atmosphere was pretty cool but the food was not that great. We would have been very disappointed had we not had the gift certificate. That is not to say that some of their other items are not top notch but the two items we tried were less than average, especially when considering the price we paid. On the plus side, Muddy's is right across the road so head over there for a cupcake if you are less than satisfied with your visit to Lynchburg Legends. Just do not get the Rose Water Cupcake at Muddy's. It was kind of nasty. Review on Muddy's coming later.
