A Review of the Nativity Story Movie

Donna H. Davey
This evening the five of us ventured into the cold, dark night; hoping to capture the magic from the one incident in history that has inspired upon us to live with faith and to be thankful for our salvation, as undeserved as it is.

We've heard the stories, seen the paintings and nativity sets, and had faith in their wondrous message, but there was something extraordinary about seeing the cherished events develop before us; brought to life by an enchanting film that beautifully, and with integrity, represented the times of long ago.

The humanity presented on screen embodied the incredible and overwhelming emotion of one of the greatest moments in human kind and my heart was moved and my soul was touched as I could imagine being there, partaking in such a realistic and momentous experience, whether through the eyes of the Magi or the Shepherd's…

There, in their lifetime, was born the savior of mankind and their eyes beheld His face the evening He was born, in the most humble but awe-inspiring of circumstances.

God, Omnipotent and Omnipresent, Creator of all, becoming human flesh the moment of conception; protected and nurtured in the womb of His creation, and was then born into a fallen world in order to save the world.

God, magnificent Creator, could have had humanity fall before Him, but He humbled Himself and sought to save us all by offering Himself as the utmost sacrifice.

No love could be so grand or so pure, and us, the fallen, were served, loved and forgiven by the one who made us all.

God; born to a woman, raised by man, willing servant and forgiving sacrifice for all.

The movie itself was truly captivating; simple yet beautiful, appropriate for all ages, and one of the best I've seen.

As I usually am when seeing films of this nature, I was impressed with the crowd, which consisted of elderly, adult, teenager, child and infant. They were courteous, respectful to others and applauded at the end. The movie was superb but the overall experience made it something exceptional.

  • The movie personalizes Mary and Joseph and shows what they might have been feeling.
  • The simplicity throughout the movie made it elegant.
  • The crowds that see faith based films are for the most part, courteous, allowing for a better movie going experience.

Maybe I'll take the wife to see it when I get home next time. Good review. And Merry Christmas!

Our church is asking that we all go see it this Christmas to remind us all of the true meaning of why we celebrate Christmas. Thanks for another lovely piece Donna.

It was an amazing movie. I loved the level of acting in it...lots happened just with the action and looks between the character...I LOVE when movies are not completely dependant on dialogue. :-)

My husband's favorite line was, "We are each given a gift". He's been saying that to our children ever since. Angela <><

Great review. I've heard good things about this movie, and my wife and I are both eager to see it. It's great to see movies like this out in the theaters--I wish we had more like it. Thanks for writing this.
