Zoom: The 9-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 has 10x optical zoom. I was not all that pleased with the photos when using the complete 10x zoom. The pictures were pixel filled and blurred, but not too bad for 10x zoom. It's just in today's day of age, more digital cameras have been produced and their zooms put the DMC-TZ5's to shame.
Shots: The over all shot of for the DMC-TZ5 is not too bad, as long as you do not zoom in too far. Once you get about 5x or 6x zoom the picture will began to blur out and it just does not look all that hot. With the 9-megapixels, the DMC-TZ5 offers amazing 3456 x (how tall or wide the picture you take).
Video: The movie capture mode offers a wonderful 1280x720-pixel resolution. There are a few gains here and there, but not too terribly bad and the grains seem to appear more in dark places, but this camera in movie mode does fine in full daytime exposure. DMC-TZ5 records all of its movies as QuickTime Motion JPEG movies. You can record approx. 11 minute movie clip with a gigabyte. The max your movie clip can be is 20 minutes using a total of 2 gigabytes maximum.
You are also able to use VGA mode and record wide movie clips. The resolution for a wide clip comes out to be about 1,280x720 on VGA modes.
LCD: The 9-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 was very generous with screen size. DMC-TZ5 offers a large 2.5 LCD screen for your photo and viewing pleasure.
Dimensions: The DMC-TZ5 is a rather bulky camera if you were to compare it to the average digital camera today. The dimensions measure in at 4.1x2.3x1.4 inches and it weighs a total of 8.5 ounces.
Lens: The DMC-TZ5 has a standard 28-280mm lens. Wide shots come out okay.
ISO quality: The ISO runs from 400, 800, to 1600. I found that ISO 400 offers surprisingly clear pictures as long as you do not zoom too far in.
In the end, if you are someone who is looking for a camera to take the average family pictures (such as birthdays and holidays), if you are going on vacation and need a good resolution camera to show of the mountains your visiting or Disney land, etc, this camera would be a good pick. If you are a photographer that is looking for a quick point and shoot or a good zoomer, this camera may not be the best choice for you. I love photography and this camera is okay, but it's not the best and I do get frustrated time to time.
