A Review of Pandora IPhone App

Matt
If you have never heard of Pandora Online Radio you should check it out now. It is a free radio station service that brings you music based on your ratings of previous songs. The great thing about this service is that, unlike other customized radio stations online, this one is based off of the Music Genome Project which includes professional audio experts listening to all the individual songs and breaking them down into pieces so they can figure out what you would like and only deliver you music you're interested in.

This service also has an associated iPhone application, which works just as well. It is available for free from the iTunes application store. There is an option to pay a subscription fee to get rid of ads and lift the number of hours of music you can listen to a month. Once again, this is optional, the normal service is free.

The Pandora service is extremely popular, and the reason is it is that it provides free, customized music in a way that no other service does. Many argue that it sometimes delivers music that they don't like, but that's because it's difficult to provide exactly what a user wants based on an algorithm. Everyone's tastes are different, and not everyone will be satisfied, but if one were to try the service themselves or browse the various reviews online, there's a good chance they will love it.

This application requires a 3G connection, as it is a streaming music service. It also limits the hours of music you can listen to in a month due to legal reasons and the quality isn't always up to par. Now, of course those things are hard to control in many cases as the limitation on hours is for legal reasons and the quality issue has to do with speed. The music is streamed, and for other legal reasons, will not be perfect quality. If you are using the application on the iPhone, it is considered a third-party app, and as many iPhone users already know, you can't listen to it while using other iPhone applications.

Despite these flaws, however, it's still a great service and a wonderful application. It's one of the best, in my personal opinion, and hopefully it will stay around for a very long time. Hopefully, due to copyright laws and other radio station laws, it won't eventually get shut down. There's nothing illegal about it, but it makes the music industry very nervous as it uses a modern business model that they tend to be scared of.
