A Review of Rent a Center in Logan, Ohio

And Ideas on How to Avoid the Rental Business

Johanna Swith
Rent A Center in Logan recently bought out Aaron's, a rental competitor. My mom was renting from Aaron's and much to her disappointment she now is a Rent A Center customer. She has been most unhappy with her service via Rent A Center. Every day I have to hear her complain about her dealings with Rent A Center, and how she wished my dad had been home when her refrigerator broke down. She had no choice but to rent a refrigerator from Aaron's, and as it was a twelve month rental, she made the rotten decision to continue renting instead of buying out right. In eight months her ' brand new' refrigerator has broken down three times, they will not replace it, but they will repair it every other month. Her rental is nearly paid for, and she will have to buy another refrigerator, she already knows this.

The staff at Rent A Center is especially horrible, and customer service is not in their vocabulary. Jeff Winchell is the manager. This guy is shady. I just don't trust him. I also dislike him for the run arounds he frequently gives my mom.

My mom has never been late on a payment, for the simple fact that she can afford to pay her bills. This does not stop Jeff Winchell from calling her every day the week before her payment is due. She often says she would just pay it off, but she is afraid that the refrigerator will break down, and she won't get it repaired without paying out of her pocket if it is paid in full. I understand where she is coming from if you pay over twelve hundred dollars for a supposedly brand new refrigerator, you expect to get a brand new refrigerator. Not a broken down used hunk of junk.

She was much happier with the friendly staff at Aaron's, who could not replace the refrigerator, because they were being bought out, and every thing was on Rent A Centers terms. In my opinion I would recommend that before you rent anything, check out American Freight, where you can buy furniture and appliances at a fraction of the cost of renting to own. You could also try a consignment shop, a yard sale or a thrift store. In reality you will get the same quality of merchandise, used, at a fraction of the price. Additionally you will save yourself a lot of hassle.

I am a disgruntled consumer as well. It started with the first payment. I worked nights. The day the first payment was do they called me at 8:50 in the morning. I worked nights. Why was this necasairy? Fast forward their weekly reminder calls. I am in labor on the way to the hospital with my child. They called. They called the next day to see if I would make a payment...No, what part of in the hospital is not understood? I get home from the hospital, and am three days late on my payment. I'm home for just a couple hours and they show up on my doorstep and pound on the door like their the police. I was angry and let them pound. and pound. and pound for over a halph an hour.
Their rediculous, and if I hadn't payed nearly all of my furniture off(I owe about 300 and have payed close to 3000 for something worth 800-pretty stupid of me) I would shove their furniture someplace dark.

I am quite sorry to hear about your experience, I know how you feel about everything, sometimes it is better to just out right buy the important things then it is too rent to own.....

As to the previous condition of the refrigerator, unfortunately, this has been a common complaint dealing with the "friendly" Aaron's staff. This is something we had no control over, as it was their way of doing business, not ours. I welcome you to come with your Mother to our store and ask all the questions that you have. If the refrigerator is still not paid off, there are options that you have in our value added services. If keeping the refrigerator is what is best for her, we also have a program that can help with the worry of service for up to a year after it is paid off. Ask about Benefits Plus. I'm sorry your Mom's experience with Aaron's previously friendly, albeit dishonest staff was not great, but now it is our job to do our best for those customers. Stop in and we'll be glad to address your Mother's concerns as best we are able.
