A Review of Rice a Roni Chicken and Garlic

Johanna Swith
My family has always enjoyed Rice A Roni. This is a well known food product that makes an excellent and flavorful side dish that can fit into nearly any meal for a busy family. When I saw Chicken and Garlic Rice a Roni at my local Wal-Mart Super Center I decided to purchase it. I would like to take this opportunity to state that I always purchase Great Value Rice in Chicken or Beef flavors over the national brand. It was strange to willing pay nearly fifty cents per package more for something as simple as this, I am a bargain shopper by habit, but necessity also plays a major part in my shopping habits.

With that having been stated, I would like to say the motivation behind my purchase was the addition of garlic flavor to the well known mix of Chicken flavored Rice A Roni. I have never had a bad experience with this product, be it the store brand or national.

I paid $1.27 for Rice A Roni Chicken and Garlic rice. It is an easy to prepare dish that I have prepared more times than I could count.

After following the instructions, my side dish was complete in about 25 minutes. It looked quite appealing, as I normally find Rice A Roni type products.

After serving Chicken and Garlic Rice A Roni, I noticed the flavor was really quite bland and I was not at all impressed. I thought it must be me, maybe my taste buds are off, or I am catching a cold... My boyfriend commented after a moment, "No offense, this is really bland." I knew it wasn't just me, he rarely complains about his meals.

I don't know what is going on with the lack of flavor with this side dish. I suspect maybe it was just the package I purchased. I can't imagine Rice A Roni making a bad product, or a dish with so little flavor involved.

Normally we love our traditional side dish of any flavor or brand of Rice A Roni type food products, I would still purchase any flavor without hesitation, but my honest opinion of Chicken and Garlic Rice A Roni was that it could use more flavor and seasonings. Despite my lack of satisfaction I would still recommend any Rice A Roni product to anyone. There are an assortment of flavors available to suit any taste buds.
