A Review of Ruggles Green Restaurant in Houston, Texas

An Eco-Friendly, Organic Restaurant with Delicious Food

Bobbi Leder
Ruggles Green in Houston, Texas is an organic, eco-friendly restaurant that serves delicious food. Ruggles Green is a certified green restaurant so not only do they serve hormone-free, preservative-free, organic food but they also recycle their products - including their coffee grounds which are used for bio fuel. Imagine if every restaurant was that earth friendly?

What Does an Eco-Friendly Organic Restaurant Serve?

Everything and anything you can possibly think of including gluten free items, quinoa pasta and sweet potato fries. Ruggles Green in Houston, TX has appetizers like calamari, hummus, and high protein hempenadas. Soups include minestrone, French onion, roasted corn chowder, and fire-roasted tomato basil. The portions for everything including the appetizers, salads and entrees are all large, so bring your appetite and friend to share your food with.

Ruggles Green in Houston, TX even has tacos, thin crusted wood-fired pizzas, paninis, sandwiches, and unique desserts like hemp brownies and millionaire pie - made with organic pecans, coconut, semi-sweet chocolate, and sweet caramel filling in a pastry dough crust.

Our Meals

I ordered the buffalo burger with sweet potato fries ($10.95), and my mother had the turkey burger with the house-cut fries ($9.95); both burgers were served on a whole wheat bun which was surprisingly tasty. I ordered the buffalo burger medium rare and although the burger was tender, savory, sweet, and juicy, the middle was a bit undercooked for my liking. Perhaps I should have ordered my buffalo burger medium, but since it was extra large, I had more than enough to satisfy my appetite. The buffalo burger was the best I've ever had - even with it being more rare than medium. My mother raved about her turkey burger so if you're a meat eater, Ruggles Green is definitely worth a try. Of course it's a great place for vegetarians too.

Ruggles Green in Houston, TX is not a fancy restaurant; in fact, customers place their order at the counter, receive a number in which to place on their table, and their food is delivered to them. Customers have to get their own utensils, napkins, and drinks; and this eco-friendly restaurant has a plethora of condiments available like organic ketchup and mustard. Ice water is free and there is a broad array of natural sweeteners including stevia, raw sugar and brown sugar - something you don't normally see in other restaurants. Being an eco-friendly restaurant, Ruggles Green also serves organic tea, organic coffee, and all natural soda made with cane sugar.

The one negative about dining at Ruggles Green in Houston, TX is the noise. The decibel level inside the restaurant was overwhelming thus making a conversation difficult, but that was partly due to the fact that Ruggles Green is so popular. Apparently the secret is out that this restaurant is indeed worth its weight in gold. If noise is an issue for you, don't fret because take-out is always an option.
