A Review of Same Day Service Washer Repair in Providence, RI

Moira Richardson
All I know is that when I went downstairs to move my laundry from the washer to the dryer, I found a soppy wet mess instead of damp clothes in need of drying. The dirty sudsy water wouldn't go down no matter how many times I tried changing the washer's settings, and after ten minutes of sheer frustration, I realized I had no choice but to call in the local repairman.

I did a little online research for washer repair (since phone books are so 1950s) and decided to go with Same Day Service Company. It helped that they offered at $10 discount on their website: http://www.sdsco.biz/. I called the 800 number listed on the website, and after being kept on hold for a mere two minutes, I reached an operator. She informed me that the company did in fact service the Providence area and that the service charge to have a technician come out to diagnose the problem would be $79.99.

It was 1:30 in the afternoon, but I was told that I could still have a technician come by that day. What would happen is that the technician would come out, check out the machine, and then give me an exact quote on how much the machine would cost to repair. Since the technicians work by the job and not the hour, the price would be the price I'd pay, no matter how long the job took to finish.

I was in dire need of clean laundry, and my boyfriend had taken the care to work that day so driving to a Laundromat wasn't an option. I decided to go ahead and have the technician come out. About an hour later, a friendly technician arrived. He tinkered around with the machine for a few minutes, and by the time he came back upstairs, the problem was resolved -- a sock had ended up somewhere it shouldn't -- and I wasn't charged anything on top of the service charge.

Was $80 too much to pay to have a technician remove a sock? Not for me it wasn't! No way was I sticking my hand in that grungy water, and I was glad to know it wasn't a more expensive issue. I think the price was fair, the repairman was great, and I was happy with the results. There are a few other service companies in the city, but none who respond as quickly as Same Day Service Company.
