A Review on Samsung C100 a Slim Phone

MCWL
I own a Samsung C100 for close to 4 years now. It's my first Samsung phone as I was using Nokia phones in the past. The C100 was one of the slimmest phones released into the market by Samsung 4 years ago - although there are many slimmer phones out in the market now. The C100 is lightweight as it weights at 76 grams only. Although the phone is rather long, it comes with a 65K color screen.

I got excited when I first bought my Samsung C100. The main feature that attracted my attention the most was it was a slim phone that could easily fit into my pocket. Furthermore, my hands could easily type messages on the keypad as the keypad is rather large.

If you remove the battery, you will notice that the battery is pretty slim. A full charge will get the phone operational for 3 days - with minimal phone usage. An average usage such as making calls and simple messaging will drain the battery out in one and a half day.

What I like the most about the C100 is because it's my first color phone with Java games. The phone comes with 2 preset games. You can download more games through GPRS. However, I did find some problem installing certain games. It might be the result of phone incompatibility.

The phone spots a sleek metallic-grey finishing. The phone is rather smooth on the surfaces. Take note however, that it might slip off your fingers if you are not careful. I've dropped the C100 a couple of times but it didn't leave any scratches on the phone at all. It didn't totally damage the phone as well.

However, I have found a couple of software faults with the phone. The first and the most annoying is the messaging service. Whenever you have filled up all the memory space on your SIM card, the phone will annoyingly beeps out an error message that it could not receive anymore incoming messages as the SIM memory is full - the phone internal memory has ample of space. The only thing that I could do was to empty every single messages on the SIM card to rectify this problem.

Also, I noticed that on certain occasion right after I have fully charge the phone, an error message would alert me that the battery life is low. I just ignore the message and the phone continues to operate normally.

I find it rather hard to write messages also. The main problem is that the phone doesn't come with a dictionary where you can add new words! I had to switch between T9 and normal text input a few times to get my intended word.

Next, don't be fooled by the infrared - it doesn't work at all. Although you can turn the infrared function on, it doesn't really do anything.

After using it for more than 4 years, I noticed that the battery doesn't last as long compare to 4 years ago. A full charge will only get the phone operational for a day. Also, after 4 years of constant usage, the hash (#) key on the keypad does not perform that well anymore.

As a conclusion, for those who are looking for a cheap and slim phone, you might want to get you hands on a C100 by Samsung. However, I wouldn't really recommend you to get this phone, unless the manufacturer upgrades the software to a better one. It's a pretty flawed phone as of now.

Good day!

  • The C100 is slim and sleek, just be a little more careful while using it.
  • It has good battery life but the 65K color display is a little too tiny.
  • This phone has serious software flaws - take note.
This is a good phone for normal usages. It is sleek and can fit nicely into my pockets. I enjoyed typing messages with the broad keypad but it has serious software flaws.
