At first look, the Moment may appear to be a texting phone with its full QWERTY keyboard that slides out, but in reality, this little addition gives you a much better view of the phone while using apps. While most touch screen phones have a virtual keyboard on the screen that shrinks or hides everything, the Moment gives you an easy to use keyboard without losing anything in the apps. Being a smart phone, you can do virtually anything that you would be able to do on a netbook with this phone. By adding this keyboard, it is much easier and faster to access and handle all the apps that you need to use. Whether you are writing the next cell phone novel, setting up business meetings, or just chatting with friends, the keyboard adds a very user friendly addition only rivaled by Blackberry.
The display is really what sells this phone. At first glance, many people will confuse this with the iPhone. It has a very similar display, but there are a few differences. While the iPhone does have a larger screen by about a half inch, the Moment has a far superior display technology. The AMOLED screens that this phone uses are much more bright and colorful than the Apple version. The Moment has a truly HD screen that will pop out at you with its brilliance and sharpness. The colors on this phones display are some of the best on the market.
Aside from these two aspects, the Moment is basically the same as any other smart phone. It is a touch screen phone that you can use to watch TV and movies, listen to music, or play games on. There are many apps for this phone since it is Droid powered on the Sprint network. You get to take advantage of both the Android Store and the Sprint store to find any app that your heart desires. There are several new ones you can get as well. From word processors to Pac Man, there are too many apps to list. This phone also has WiFi and several other functions. No matter what it is that you need this phone to do, it can do it. This is truly a smart phone that is more than capable of surfing the web, accessing any site on the net, checking your email, texting, or anything else that you may need it to do (I am currently teaching mine to make lasagna). The GPS functions are also easy to use with a push button app that can give you directions in seconds.
With the good, there is always some bad. While many people do tout this phone as being superior to the iPhone in function and capability, there is one downfall. The battery in this thing does not last for very long. Since this is similar to having a netbook in your pocket, the battery is similar. With such a small battery, you will need to keep it charging whenever you can. There are a couple of apps out there (task killer and task manager) that can aid in this by closing apps and programs that you are not using, but the battery still seems to drain quickly. While most cell phones do last at least all day, this one tends to burn out in a couple hours. There is talk of a better battery, but until that happens, you may need to have at least one spare on hand.
Overall, this phone is one of the best to be released. It is a hybrid cross between a Blackberry and the iPhone, but can easily outperform both. This is very difficult for me to say, since I am a huge Blackberry fan, but this phone is the best on the market. It is definitely better than the iPhone. Droid has constantly outperformed Apple in every aspect of their technologies, and this is no different. The price is the best part of this phone. At only $75 with a contract, the Moment is one of the lowest price new smart phones that you can get your hands on.
