I chose this particular size pool because I limited space in my backyard due to several trees. A couple of the trees are placed in a way that I just could not have a bigger pool. I couldn't find a pool with a 12 foot diameter in any of my local stores, so I ordered it from Wal-Mart online.
The pool arrived just a few days later on a Friday afternoon. Saturday morning, with the help of my sister, I went to work putting up the pool so that I could begin my great summer lying on my float. The box that the pool came in indicated that this particular pool would be ready for water in about ten minutes. In reality, it took about an hour before I was able to start adding water to the pool. But, to me, this was great timing. An hour was not a big deal to me. Once the frame was together and the pool looked level and stable, I began filling the pool with water. This took some time. I started filling the pool at about 11:00 AM on Saturday morning and let the water run into it until about 2:30 PM. Then I did the same thing on Sunday afternoon. By Sunday afternoon, the pool was full of water and I began running the filter/pump, added stabilizer and let the water filter through.
It took over a week for the water to warm enough for swimming. Since the pool has warmed up, I have spent a few sunny afternoons lying on a float in the pool. The relaxation it has brought me is priceless.
While I am really enjoying my pool, there are a couple of things that I would change about it. First of all, as soon as I can get a couple of trees cut, I will upgrade to one of the 24 foot diameter pools. I would love to have more room to float in the water. The second thing I would change is the pump/filter. I have ended up purchasing a larger pump/filter for the pool. I just don't think that the pump/filter that came with the pool is strong enough to adequately pump the water through the pool. The suction just is not strong enough to pull insects and other small particles from the pool into the filter. I will keep everyone updated once I get the new pump/filter installed.
I really do like this pool a lot. It is very easy to clean and maintain. I have vacuumed it a couple of times and skimmed leaves out with a net several times. The simplicity of the installation still amazes me. It was almost too easy! Hopefully, I will continue to enjoy my pool this year and be able to upgrade to something larger next year.

I guess we are usually defined by what we do. I am a math professor who prefers to work with education majors. I enjoy going for long walks. I also really love being in the water! View profile

Post a Commentthis is my 2nd yr. with my 12'X3' pool. the bottom cleaner came apart, the nylon sleeve came apart....walmart couldn't replace just the sleeve. i replaced the nuts & bolts and sewed a nylon sleeve together. i replaced the pump with my old 3/4 HP pump which was great but it didn't keep the pool from going bad. my old pool was 12X30 and never had this many problems. i didn't have to watch it like a baby. this small system suits our needs fine except it's so much more work........goes cloudy fast....if i get sick and can't care for it, i have to dump the whole thing and start over. did it twice this year alone.
have concluded that i need a pool with straight sides so i can have a skimmer that allows the bottom cleaner to work and has a better filter system. i won't have to work so hard to keep it clean.
anybody have any suggestions?
i share your enthusiam buttt.....the bottom vacuum nylon sleeve tore, lost the screws/nuts that hold the handle and walmart
