My first impression is that this is a very nice establishment that put a lot of time and money into making their place look authentic, relaxing, and professional. They recently moved from their old location to this new location where they totally remodeled and revamped their look. The theme of this restaurant is a modern Japanese theme. They have the authentic bamboo seats and the sushi bar, but then they also have a drink bar with televisions to compensate for those who like that kind of thing. The level of formality is communicated through décor by the professional and nice style of the tables, chairs and lighting. I don't really think their restaurant/brand is communicated through their décor. Their Japanese theme could be communicating Sansu, but I'm not exactly sure. I can tell that Sansu is very successful just by looking at it's décor. It has very nice furniture, lighting, menus, and televisions.
The widths of the hallways/aisles are fairly large allowing for an efficient flow of traffic. I've never had any trouble making my way to my table or to the restroom. There is a good amount of room between tables allowing for the servers to move around freely without knocking things over or crowding anyone else. The lobby area is the restaurant is probably the one place where I've found fault in this establishment. It's a fairly big square, allowing for people to move in and out quite smoothly, but there isn't enough seating for those who are waiting for a table. So when there are a lot of people waiting for a table, it gets crowded quite quickly making it hard for people to come in and leave, it gets pretty chaotic I'd say.
The access point to the dining area from the central kitchen is kind of hidden from the rest of the restaurant, but it has shown to be quite effective in getting the servers in and out with the food, without any catastrophes. There are two restrooms, one for the women and one for the men. In these restrooms I believe there are three stalls. I think that these are enough to accommodate the seating in the dining room seeing as the few times I've used the restrooms, there was never a line or crowding.
The restaurant is not an ADA compliant. I feel that the parking areas are for the most part adequate for the restaurant. Though a few times I've noticed that the parking lot had been completely filled, so people have had to park at other establishments and then walk over to the restaurant. And then there are multiple areas of access of which you can get to the parking area.
To visit Sansu Restaurant go to 4750 S. Hagadorn Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823 or give them a call at (517) 333-1933.
