When my son was first born everyone told me to go to Babies R Us to have his first pictures taken. Since I didn't know any better that is where I ended up taking him. Boy, I was not happy. Actually, I don't know who was unhappier, myself or my son. Since my son is on the shy side, he couldn't handle all of the commotion that was going on around him. All of the hustle and bustle of all different children getting their pictures taken in the same room was freaking him out. I should know because I too was getting anxiety from all of the commotion. I decided then that I would no longer take him to Babies R Us for his pictures anymore. A friend of mine suggested I try Sears Portrait Studio in the Sunvet Mall located in Holbrook, New York.

For my son's second set of pictures, I took him to Sears Portrait. It was conveniently located in the same mall that I like to take him for pizza so I knew exactly where to go. I had called ahead so I already had a set appointment. I wasn't sure if I needed one but I didn't want to take the chance and be turned away. I had never been here before so didn't know what to expect. As soon as we walked in, I was happy that the store was so big and roomy. I didn't feel crowded or claustrophobic like I did at Babies R Us. I signed my son in and waited to be called. We didn't have to wait long at all.

The photographer called us in and to my surprise, we had our own studio room. This already was going to be a better experience than before. I was able to put all of our stuff down plus the big stroller without worrying it was in anyone's way. I told the photographer what type of pictures I wanted and she started pulling props out of the back closet. They had so many different types of scenes we could have picked from. I chose the fishing theme. My husband loves to fish so I thought he would get a kick out the pictures of our son fishing.

At first, my son was having trouble settling down. He wanted to crawl back to me. After a little while, the photographer was able to settle him down and actually get him to smile. She took many shots so we had plenty to choose from. After the pictures were done, she pulled them up on the monitor and showed us right there what the pictures look like. When I saw that I had enough pictures to choose from, we left the room.

After you are doing shooting the pictures, you go back out into their waiting room and sit at the computer screen going through all of the shots that were taken. The photographer sits with you as well and explains all of your options. We chose a special package that gave us a certain amount of sheets and some extra pictures too. After you sit with the photographer you then go and pay. I ended up signing up for the sitting club for $15. I could bring my son back as many times as I want for the year using this sitting club card. If you don't sign up for this card then each time you sit for pictures it will cost you a sitting fee. It is definitely worth signing up for the card. Even if you only go back one more time, it is still cheaper that not purchasing the card.

I chose to have the pictures sent out to be developed and actually received them in less than two weeks. The pictures really came out great. I probably bought too many but at the time, you feel like you want to pick every shot. Looking back now, I should have only picked one or two poses. This is good advice for next time. I have since been back quite a few more times and each time I have had a great experience. I have many friends who also use Sears Portrait Studio in the Sunvet mall. We all have had similar experiences. They even ran the cutest baby contest for Halloween. It was fun to go and vote for whom you thought was the cutest baby.

I highly recommend Sears Portrait Studio located in the Sunvet Mall in Holbrook, NY. Your child will feel like a superstar!
