A Review of Shrek

Allie Bojko
Shrek is an exceptional CGI film that certainly has its fair share of unexpected twists and surprises which makes this movie all that exciting. It contains a lot of humor, it also parodies many of the fairy tales we have all grown to love when we were all little children. Many of the adults will find this movie quite interesting and might even laugh as well. For example, Farquaad's genetic makeup and many of the hidden messages behind every remark or comment made. Like really any other movie, Shrek does have some emotional moments as well and there not corny in any way either. There sort of hilarious at times, but not all of the time simply because there will be moments that'll make you feel like sympathizing for a particular character.

Shrek's a great movie that was way ahead of its time in 2001, even nine years later it's still a fascinating movie to watch. The movie seemed so realistic as if you were in it, the characters looked relatively real, the graphics, it's also approaching its ten year anniversary. This movie even without all of the enhancements in today's animated movies, it's indeed a perfectly animated movie. The scenery, the environments, the wind whispers traveling through the grassy lands, the flow of the character's hair and the climate changes they all seemed to be so realistic. It's quite funny in a sense that I was just a child when I first saw this movie and now I'm a young adult writing a review of this movie and even now I consider it a beautifully made film.

I really love as to how stunning and sucked in I was to this movie Shrek, it's unlike any other movie out there, it's a lot more than a CGI film. It has a great plot, it's really neat and interesting as to how different it is to other CGI films plots. It involves an ogre named Shrek, he needs to save a princess named Fiona from a fire breathing dragon in order to have his swamp cleared of all the fairytale characters. The movie Shrek had a lot of interesting surprises and goes beyond them. The dragon in the movie is like a comic relief in several ways it also contributes to the movie's action sequence. The female dragon chases down both Shrek and the Donkey through a rope bridge, it also rescues Princess Fiona from an unwanted marriage she wanted no part in and it also swallows a whole person, a midget.

Eddie Murphy plays the Donkey and does a wonderful job in doing so. He's certainly one of many characters I enjoyed not only in this movie but out of all animated movies. I couldn't see another actor portraying the Donkey other than Eddie Murphy. The Donkey's a very entertaining character since it's him that provides many of the comedic moments of the movie. Shrek is a movie that anyone could watch it's not only entertaining for children but for adults as well. Shrek is a brilliant movie at it's finest. I truly appreciate the individuals that have taken time out of their day to read this review I am certainly thankful for that.

Both Princess Fiona and Donkey are the only characters in the movie that actually call Shrek, Shrek. All of the other characters refer to Shrek as an Ogre, a Beast, That Thing, It and even Him.

I loved Shrek and Shrek 2. Didn't like Shrek the 3rd too much. Good review.
