A Review of Singsnap.Com

The Website that Allows You to Sing Your Heart Out

Seamus McDermott
Singing can fit almost any type of mood you're in. If you're happy, you can sing and augment the feeling. If you're sad, singing can wash those blues away. The point is singing is a cathartic experience. Even if you can't sing, as is the case with myself, you still feel like singing sometimes.

Singsnap.com is the perfect website for you to visit if you're interested in singing. Membership is free and they have a vast array of songs. Songs are even divided by genre and artist if the song you're looking for is hard to find and you need to narrow down your search. Best of all, it's a karaoke site, so you don't have to sing-along with the original recording, you can just sing. I visit the site quite often myself.

Now, like I said, membership is free, but when signing up you'll be asked if you would like to upgrade to gold membership. It's a $7 a month fee that can be done without. Most of the songs that are marked as being available to gold members only have other versions that are available with just the standard free membership. An example of this would be the Pink Floyd song "Another Brick in the Wall Part II," there are several versions of this song and only one is marked for gold members only and the rest any standard free member can access. So if you're hard-up for money, don't waste any by signing up for gold membership that just gives you redundant benefits.

You can also record your performances if you would like with either a standard computer microphone or a webcam. I use the standard microphone, because I really don't want a video of my horrible singing to be posted on YouTube for somebody to laugh at. Other people do record their performances with their webcams though and some of them are quite good actually. That's another great thing about Singsnap.com, the website allows you to watch other members' performances. You're also allowed to rate the performances.

So what are you waiting for, head over to Singsnap.com and start singing. And don't be embarrassed if others can hear you singing, just enjoy yourself. It's what the website is all about. In addition, remember that membership is free and that there is no limit to how many songs you're allowed to sing while you're signed in. It's unlimited free membership.

  • The membership is free.
  • No limit to how many songs you're allowed to sing or record.
  • Gold membership only offers redundant features available in standard free mode.
When you first go to Singsnap.com, at the top of the browser window it will say "Singsnap" and the follow with a funny message. There's a new one each time.

experience before. Any-way I replied asking what was going on with the sudden threats of my membership and they never even replied to explain the situation. A couple of weeks later, SingSnap staff were harrassing me saying I wasn't any use to them any-way as I to them couldn't afford a full membership so I wasn't good enough for them and the GOLD members and they knew this because there had been a big meeting between SingSnap Support and the staff! I couldn't believe my eyes and I replied threatening to tell other members on singsnap about their threatening messages and the evidence and minutes later it came up my account had been suspended! I nearly punched the computer I was so angry.

I was a blue member on singsnap for three months and let me tell you from my experience, you only last on this site if you join gold members cliques seriously! Within six weeks of me being a member I got a pm from SingSnap Support stating my membership wouldnn't be worth anything, under threat and like a waste of time if I didn't start making friends with gold members instead of just singing and being judged as a loner by SingSnap! Yes singsnap was judging me just because I only was using this site to make recordings, isn't that the point though of a singing site and it also said how do you expect views and comments if you don't make yourself known by joining a group of gold members! This was said in a private message by singsnap support, not just by a singsnap member, the actual site was threatening my membership all on wether I joined a gold memberships group with the next six weeks or my account isn't active anymore! I bet you have never heard of that kind of

Bad news. Don't bother with singsnap, you will regret it.

SS has become a poor place to spend your entertainment money in my view. If you do not kiss the behind of certain privileged members of the ruling clique you will be stomped down in short order. It used to be a friendly place, but now is a witch hunt.

  • SingSnap Slow Death1/29/2011

SingSnap has essentially become locked down in a police state. Private messages are read by Staff and message board entries disappear if they are not about sugar, spice, and everything nice. You dare not speak out about policies on or OFF site. If you get caught on ANOTHER SITE (yes! another site!) speaking about SingSnap in a less than flattering way, you will be banned even if you have Gold membership PAYED for a year or more! SingSnap is not a community. It is a group of sheep being led by a Hitler-like CEO.

I concurr with "Blinded by the Light".

It was once a great place to be. Now it is not. On the surface, it's all very civilized. They like ot promote the place as one happy family. But it's a very disfunctional family with a strong armed dictator at the head. They used to listen to our feedback and adjust accordingly when it was a Beta site. They used the original members to test the site; but now it seems they are to be thrown out and replaced with people that will pay more and more and more without question. Any dissention is dealt with harshly with no room for discussion. Power certainly seems to have gone to someone's head in a big way.

Perhaps at one time in the beginning Singsnap had a great thing going..but now your title should read the place that will sell your heart out. Where as it was once a community and the owner would poll the members via the boards and change decisions that were not taken very well..those days are over. It feels more like dictatorship there . I do believe (and its sad) that SingSnap is at the rise of their fall. Most recently, new features were put into place for all members..features that the majority of members spoke out against..the adding of social network site buttons allowing any one (members and non members) to share any recording on the site that is not hid in private. Previous days there was a link box..but it was not truly noticeable. The new buttons for all of the major social networking sites are huge and placed on each recording ..inviting and encouraging people to spread the recordings made by other people with out any need to ask permission or notify the singer. SS staff s

hi, I just read your review and am curious now to hear you sing. I am a SS member myself, I go by my own name. What is your SS nickname? Send me a pm on the site so I can listen to you if you don't mind. Thanks.

    RE-SINGSNAP.COM

Sorry, but your review is either out of date or poorly researched.

Gold membership is $12 a month not $7. Most tracks are for Gold members, so if you choose the free option, you have much less choice (still plenty though but decreasing).

Recently, more restrictions were introduced apparently intended to induce/coerce Blue members to "go Gold".

Feature recordings by Blueys are pushed down the list so they quickly disappear from the feature page and so they get less/no viewers as they cannot be seen.

The advantage of going Gold (apart from getting rid of recent nuisances)is that pitch can be changed on some of the songs; this AFAIK was never available to free-account members, therefore reasonable.

All in all, it is a good site but recent developements seem to indicate a will to maximise revenue.

The membership is international and the atmosphere very friendly. [Well... until a complaint is posted about the new charges and you get flaming by member
