To say the Spanish Flowers Mexican restaurant is a landmark in Houston, TX would be an understatement. Opened by Mary Bernal in 1979, this restaurant shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. So what makes Spanish Flowers stand out from the rest of the Mexican eateries in Houston? They are open 24 hours a day so you can have tacos for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The only break the restaurant takes is on Tuesday nights when they close at 10 p.m. and re-open on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. One would think the quality of service and food would suffer in a 24 hour restaurant, but neither does; in fact, Spanish Flowers Mexican restaurant in Houston, TX has fantastic food and service.

Atmosphere
Like most Mexican restaurants in Houston, TX, Spanish Flowers is festive and lively. There is even a guitar player who politely asks customers at each table if they would like him to play for them and if they decline, there are no hard feelings.

Service
The service at Spanish Flowers Mexican restaurant is friendly, efficient, and prompt. Water was placed on our table as soon as we sat down, and we even received a free bowl of potato soup and fresh tortilla chips with two different types of salsa.

Food
As soon as our meals came out, we were offered hot tortillas that we could see being made just moments before they arrived, so we knew they were as fresh as could be. I ordered the Spanish Flowers dinner which came with a little of everything so I could get a taste of each dish. My combination plate came with one chicken enchilada, one crispy beef taco, chili con queso (with cheese), one beef tamale, guacamole, rice and beans - all that for $11.25.

The taco shell had a savory flavor that reminded me of barbeque sauce (instead of just a regular corn shell), and the beef was seasoned to perfection. This was not a run-of-the-mill taco; it was obvious that the taco was homemade. The enchilada was tasty, and the beef tamale also had a lot of flavor to it. My only complaint about the meal was the fact that there was too much cheese on the beans and chili, but most people would probably love that about the Spanish Flowers combination dinner.

My husband had the beef fajitas (Fajitas Asadas) which cost $12.50. His dish came with beans, rice, pico de gallo, guacamole, and grilled onions on a sizzling platter. My husband thought the beef was and he had leftovers because the platter was so filling.

Spanish Flowers Mexican restaurant in Houston, TX even has family meals to go like a whole roasted chicken with a pint of beans, a pint of rice, a half pint of pico de gallo, and one dozen tortillas - all for less than $14, so even if you don't have time to cook, you can still get a great meal for the entire family.

Spanish Flowers Mexican restaurant has something for everyone - including vegetarians. For breakfast they have pancakes, oatmeal, and omelets so even if you're not a fan of Mexican food you can still dine at Spanish Flowers.
