Flavor
Sunchips Original Flavor snacks are a multigrain alternative to potato chips and other more processed snack foods. The chips are shaped into squares with ripples and the taste is reminiscent of corn chips and in fact are made by the Frito-Lay company. They have a slightly salty/sweet flavor that goes with an assortment of sandwiches or wraps. Even peanut butter and jelly.
Nutrition
Sunchips have about a third less fat than ordinary potato chips with zero amounts of Trans fats. A one ounce serving is around 16 chips and has 140 calories. They have two grams of fiber per serving due to the whole grains used in making this multi grain chip. Some of those grains include: corn, wheat and rice. The whole grains give more satisfaction making it easier to control portion size.
Size and Packaging
The Sunchips multi grain original flavor snacks come in a metallic blue bag sealed with a guarantee of freshness and are stocked in the chip and snack sections of grocery stores. The bag is approximately 11 ounces in weight and has 12 servings per container. Once opened, they can be closed tightly with a chip clip and they stay fresh for quite a while in the cool pantry.
Some of the blue bags have pink on them announcing the Sunchips partnership with Race for the Cure. They were donating a certain amount per bag to breast health awareness programs.
Cost
The 11 ounce bag of Sunchips Original Flavor retails for around $3.49 and is frequently on sale. Sunchips are a good deal for the health conscious looking for a guilt free fast food to enjoy. Children would find them tasty without knowing they are a healthier snack than perhaps normally eaten.
Where to Buy
Most grocery stores stock Frito-Lay Sunchips Original Flavor multigrain snacks where the chips and snack foods are shelved. Large department stores with grocery sections have them too. I've bought them at Walmart and at Target stores and the prices are sometimes less than at regular retail grocery stores.
One of my favorite snacks that airlines offer inflight is the small bag of Sunchips (that I cannot find in stores yet) and a diet Sprite. Very refreshing.
The only thing I would change about Sunchips Original Flavor multigrain snacks is the size of the chip. I know they make a Sunchip in a snack size but not yet in the original flavor. I wish it were a little smaller. Visit their website at: www.sunchips.com
