A Review of the 'Understone Quest Pack' for Fable 3 on Xbox 360

AKA the 'Underwhelming Quest Pack'

Fable 3 may just be one of the best video games of 2010, however its latest DLC offering the 'Understone Quest Pack' isn't for everyone (Related Article:A Review of Fable 3 for Xbox 360).

If you haven't finished Fable 3's main story line yet or are not sitting on the throne of Albion then the 'Understone Quest Pack' is a welcome add on. However if you've already become the King or Queen of Albion then the 'Understone Quest Pack' may not be right for you. That's because by the time you've become the ruler of Albion your stats are so high that the enemies in the DLC are a complete joke. For someone who has just started a new game of Fable 3 though, the 'Understone Quest Pack' is well worth it.

As soon as you go to your Sanctuary after downloading the 'Understone Quest Pack', you'll find two new weapons in your gift inventory. Both new guns have higher stats than your starting weapons, however for someone who's already played through the game their stats are unimpressive.

Both the shooting range at the Mercenary Camp and the Wheel of Misfortune mini games provide a short diversion. Each offers additional weaponry to heroes with high scores (more guns). Unfortunately, like the two freebie weapons gifted to players, the new weapons simply aren't that powerful. Completing the Wheel of Misfortune awards an impressive 40 guild seals, which is certainly not a number to scoff about.

The main new quest "The Voice" has our hero searching for a mysterious voice. Within ten short minutes you'll discover a hidden town underneath Bowerstone that is appropriately named Understone. While the quest is quirky, it doesn't deliver the same amount of impact as some of the more memorable ones already in the game have, such as the "chesty" quest. In fact, the whole new quest can be finished within a half an hour.

Those who may be thinking to purchase the 'Understone Quest Pack' in order to pick up some easy gamer points are out of luck as the 'Understone Quest Pack' doesn't provide any additional achievements.

If you're looking for another reason to play Fable 3 after saving Albion then the 'Understone Quest Pack' is a pass. However if you've just picked up Fable 3 the 'Understone Quest Pack' is a no brainier.

This gamer hopes that Fable 3's next DLC offers more 'end game' content. There's a whole map with new locations just waiting to be added and explored.

Fable 3 is rated M for "Mature" by the ESRB. You can purchase Fable 3 from several several popular retailers here. For more information about Fable 3, visit the Lionhead Studios website here.
