A Review of Using a Kodak EasyShare C743 with a Broken LCD!
How Using a "Kodak EashShare C743" with a Broken LCD Is
Since the default settings for it have the picture resolution to the highest setting, and also because the view finder will zoom with the lens, I am able to use this camera with out the LCD screen.
It beeps when you do auto exposure, and the pictures come out clear. Even though I can not use the LCD, I can still change the picture settings using the dial nob. The only settings I can not set, are the settings that fall under "SCN".
When I take pictures of bright sunny objects the pictures come out looking good. Sometimes I will get an over exposure, but when I took some pictures of white flowers in the sunlight, they came out looking very beautiful.
I have a problem with taking pictures of pink red azaleas, the exposure always comes out wrong, and I can not find out if its a lighting problem, or the color of the flowers.
I did take some photos in the dark of my kitty, and the pictures came out looking good. I did not have a problem with exposure in those pictures, and I used only the cameras flash for light.
This camera has to have light for the auto exposure to work, and it can be hard to get auto exposure working in dim light. It seems this camera was not meant to take night photos.
There was a problem with close up shots, for some reason my photos are not centered, when I take shots to close up, my subjects seem to move upwards instead of being center. This only happens when I take photos closer than the cameras specs.
When setting the timer to take self portrait shots, I would sometimes cause the camera to flash without warning, but I was able to set the timer and take some shots of myself with it. My only problem with the timer is the 10 second limit, It can not be set for more than 10 seconds.
If I get another camera, I would get me another "Kodak EasyShare", these cameras are cheap in cost, and the camera I have works well even without an LCD screen. Because they can be used without the LCD screen, I would shop for another one on "eBay" attempting to get another deal.
My experience with the "Kodak EasyShare C743" has been a good one, and I recommend getting one for yourself, I have also found it useful without using the LCD screen. I can not use all of the cameras abilities, but the defaults are the ones I want.

Post a CommentThe 743 is an excellent camera plagued by a majr Achilles' heel. That's the fragile unprotected LCD Screen. Most other cameras have a plastic or glass shield over the LCD. Kodak decided to skimp and leave theirs unprotected. You can easliy tell it is unprotected by pressing your finger on the screen and squishing the liquid crystal.
My wife bought the first 743 for my son's Christmas gift on BF in 2006 for $99. One day, she stuck it in her tote bag without the protected case and cracked the screen. I found a replacement refurb'ed by Kodak for $70 on ebay and got it. I also snagged another one that said the camera would not turn on, but the screen was OK for $10. It turned out that the camera worked fine so I really scored on that. Sure enough, my son packed the camera in his duffel bag on a camping trip and cracked the screen again.
Check out ebay for all the c743's with cracked LCD's and make sure your next camera has a robust LCD screen.
