After being picked up off the side of the road in Minnesota the wrecker service brought our PT Cruiser into the West Acres All Stop Auto Repair in Fargo, North Dakota. I was anxious about what was wrong with the vehicle and the cost of the repair. Compounding my anxiety was the fact that the wrecker driver wasn't familiar with the shop. My only consolation was that the shop is a AAA approved facility.

My next moment of anxiety came when we found out that the auto repair shops are not open on Sundays. This is different from the area I live in. We have at least two brand name chains that are open on Sundays so I was surprised to find out that my car would sit in the lot until the next day.

On Monday, I walked over to the West Acres All Stop Repair shop from the motel. The desk was being handled by a friendly employee named Cody. He immediately put me at ease by telling me that they would do their best. I explained to him that even though we allowed extra time into our schedule we were under a pretty tight time schedule.

He seemed to understand and appreciate our predicament. They looked at the car and diagnosed the problem within minutes. Our PT Cruiser had suffered a broken timing belt. The length of time and cost to fix it would depend on what else the belt had broken in the process and if parts would be available. I was given a written estimate on the spot. This included both the repair cost for only replacing the timing belt only and the worst case scenario possibility.

At all times Cody was professional and efficient. Even though I had an out-of-town number he called a several times to update me on the progress. Not all car repair shops will go to that much trouble. It make me feel more confident about the West Acres All Stop in Fargo, North Dakota.

Unfortunately, the car did have to have a piston replaced in addition to the timing belt. Cody called to let me know. When he did, he gave me an estimate on not just cost but of time. The parts would have to come from out of town and would arrive the next day, Tuesday.

That news did not make me happy. I was hoping to be back on the road as soon as I could. Cody assured me that they would do everything they could to get me going. But, he also said that they would not work so fast as to compromise our safety on the road. This also helped me feel more confident.

On Tuesday, I got a call from Mike to let me know that the parts had come in. (It was Cody's day off.) Mike was just as friendly and as nice as Cody had been. When it came time to pick up the car he applied the AAA discount.

He noticed that my daughter at home had written "Alaska" on the windows of my car before we left. Mike laughed at this and asked if I wanted a free car wash. I accepted.

The work done at the West Acres All Stop in Fargo, ND has held up well. A few miles later and the car is still going. We arrived in Alaska without further incident. All of the guys in the shop were friendly and helpful. Cody and Mike both went out of their way to keep us informed and helped us catch up with the rest of the mission team.

Thanks West Acres All Stop in Fargo, North Dakota for a job well done!

Sounds like they did a great job - I've never been there for repairs, but I get gas there all the time since it's on my way home from work! Thanks, I'll definitely have to keep them in mind.
