A Review of Whitney Port's New Clothing Line, Whitney Eve

Star of MTV's The City, New Upcoming Designer

Alexandra Morgan
Whitney Port, MTV's The City star has a spring/summer clothing collection available for purchase online. The clothing line, titled, Whitney Eve, features designs very much in the same style as what we see Whitney dressed in on the weekly Monday night airings of The City on MTV.

If you watch MTV's The City you know that Whitney favors extremely feminine lines, pastels, florals, loose fitting short dresses, and form fitting pants; all of which you'll see mirrored in the spring/summer Whitney Eve collection. Backed by Kelly Cutrone, fashion PR guru and Whitney's mentor and self-proclaimed guardian angel, Whitney unveils a small collection that while clearly a newbie effort, does contain a few gems.

For a first collection, the Whitney Eve ss10 line has gotten some fairly favorable press reviews, as well as the current presence in the RuLaLa store.

The Whitney Eve line overall is a good early effort by a young designer who, if she sticks around, will probably have some truly promising pieces to offer.

Here are a few of my top pick items in the Whitney Eve line:

Ballerina Skirt
Price: $199
Fabric: Silk/Tulle Polyester
Care: Dry Clean

A fun flirty little number available in black and black stripe. This skirt can be paired with a corset top for a glamorous evening effect or paired carefully with a casual top for day wear.

Even though this item is a little hard to style a casual day wear ensemble around, I love it. The Whitney Eve Ballerina Skirt reminds me of my younger days as a ballet dancer and when fashion becomes fun and personal, that's when it's at its best.

Diamond Cutout Dress
Price: $299
Fabric: Silk
Care: Dry Clean

Available in fuchsia and black stripe, the Diamond Cutout Dress is subtly embellished with a diamond at the bottom center of the ribcage and a v-shaped drop waist leading into a mini poufy circle skirt. This is the perfect girl's party dress.

Draped Dress
Price: $149
Fabric: Silk
Care: Dry Clean

The Whitney Eve Draped Dress is very different; I will say that right off the bat; but it is quite progressive and pleasing to the female frame. The dress is metallic gunpowder grey with horizontally draped fuchsia fabric, crossing one side of the body from the shoulder down to the opposite side of the waist in a bow. There is something quite lovely and intriguing about Whitney's mix of a standard modern looking cocktail sheath dress beneath a Greek toga inspired draped fabric. You'll really need to view a picture of the Draped Dress to get a clear idea.

Those are my top picks from MTV The City star Whitney new clothing line, Whitney Eve.

A Few of My Favorite Items Which Sold Out
Shorts
Lace Dress
Halter Tie Dress (my favorite item in the collection).

Hopefully Whitney has plans to soon begin supplying new stock for these sold out items.

Though the Whitney Eve collection does provide a few fashion pieces appropriate for work attire, the greater portion of the line is centered around fun feminine outfits for shopping, partying, or cocktailing. Perhaps The City star could put out a new line that is corporate inspired: a sort of Melanie Griffith in Working Girl Meets Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep in Devil Wears Prada. What do you say Whitney? Kidding of course, but I do think that Whitney shows great potential to be a relevant designer in the future.
