A Review of the 'Wishes Brew Tea House of Orlando

Celebrate Any Occasion Dining in a Tradional Tea House

Sondra C
Two years ago the third birthday of my great-grandchild was celebrated at a Traditional English Tea Room. The table for the birthday girl and her friends was set in an authentic British Tea Room fashion. It was a huge success.

This year my great-granddaughter asked if she she could once again celebrate her birthday at the same Traditional English Tea Room. However, it had gone out of business. We searched the area until we found another Tea House not far from where we lived. .

The Wishes Brew Tea House of Hunter's Creek in Orlando was the nearest. We heard that it was not great but we decided to try it and find out for ourselves.

We did not make reservations. When we arrived at the Wishes Brew Tea House of Hunter's Creek in Orlando, we parked the car and walked through the door. welcomed by the waiter and ushered to a table. He handed us a menu and walked away. Twenty minutes later he returned to take our order. The room was empty. There was no obvious reason for us to be kept that long to place our order.

The Tea Room was nicely decorated with red velvet sofa's and pictures on the walls. I liked the ambiance. However the room was small and did not have the appearance of an authentic English Tea Room. In the rear was a door leading to the kitchen.

I got the sense that our experience at the Wishes Tea Room of Hunters Creek in Orlando was not going to be the same as was our prior birthday celebration at an English style Tea Room for the following reasons:

1. The waiter handed us a menu when we walked through the door, showed us to our table and walked away. We were starved and had to order soup to hold us over until we placed our order.

2. The teacups were not petite and dainty as usually used for High Tea. The tea was not served in individual tea pots for each, We were never asked if we wanted refills.

3. The sandwich tray was not outstanding as it usually is for High Tea. The bread was thickly cut instead of petite and, it tasted stale. I scooped out the small amount of the filling and threw away the bread.

My experience with the Wishes Tea Room of Hunter's Creek in Orlando was an overall disappointment. When I went home I read a few of the other reviews and noted they were ell dissatisfied for the same or similar reason.

I gave the Wishes Tea Room of Hunter's Creek in Orlando a rating of 4 out of 1-10. I was liberal in my grading since my daughter enjoyed it and also because the scones and chocolates were delicious, but not worth the price we paid. The room was clean and nicely decorated.

The menu included other luncheon selections for those who prefer to skip the Afternoon Tea Room fare. But given this place is advertised as an English Tea room I wonder why anyone would expect to order anything else but British Afternoon Tea at the Wishes Tea Room of Hunter's Creek in Orlando.

Tea Rooms seem to go out of business quickly. The cost for afternoon tea is outlandish. Find an authentic English Tea at Disney in the Grand Floridian. Be sure to call for a reservation. They have many selections to choose from.

Ironic that they'd have the word Wishes in the name of the business.
