A Romantic Getaway in the Catskills Near New York City

Daniel Rein
The Catskill Mountains in New York have for the longest time been one of the best vacation spot for couples looking to have a romantic time. The Catskill mountain area in upstate New York first became big when the Indian reservations lands were used for casinos so that the local people could benefit from making a profit and keeping their land at the same time. The Indian casinos prompted realtors to build huge and fancy resort hotels right next to the skiing slopes in the area and thus, the Catskill Mountains became a great romantic vacation getaway. Couples from across the country come and visit the Catskill Mountains during the winter time to have a nice getaway alone from the rest of the world.

The atmosphere is so peaceful and relaxing and everything you need is right at your doorstep. The hotels may be a little bit expensive but in major states like New York where minimum wage is much higher than the rest of the country and the state has one of the largest populations, prices are expected to be a little bit more expensive that your average hotel. However, the price of the hotels is by no means for the rich as middle class people can easily afford it and paying for the vacation is well worth it if you experience all that the Catskills have to offer.

Every hotel in the region is a five star hotel and one of the best hotels is called Kutcher's hotel. The Kutcher's Hotel gained so much popularity and fame that the hotel branched off and sponsored a sports camp called the Kutcher's Sports Academy that was one of the best camps in the country for competitive athletes in baseball, basketball and tennis. Famous athletes like Wilt Chamberlain came to the camp to do demonstrations for the kids and to interact with them annually. Unfortunately, when the camp started to loose campers and membership dwindled, the Hotel closed down the camp and created a bigger parking lot for its resort and built even more skiing slopes of all shapes and sizes.

The Hotels employ hundreds of people so that whatever you need can be brought right to you. The resort hotels have almost every possible accommodation for customers such as a fitness room, a pool, laundry room, continental breakfast, a bar and a lot more. In addition, every room is totally furnished with televisions, chandeliers, comfortable chairs and couches, beds, lamps for reading books at night, plenty of towels, coffee, tea and much more.

The skiing at the Catskill Mountains is also one of the finest in the country. While Denver, Colorado is particularly known for its excellent ski slopes, the Catskill Mountains are right behind it in popularity and fame. For residents on the east coast who do not wish to travel to Denver, Colorado the Catskill Mountains offers a perfect alternative for skiers. The slopes each have ski shops that sell brand name ski boards and equipment along with winter jackets, gloves and boots. There are also small mom and pop shops located right next to the slopes that serve refreshments so that skiers can grab and nice coffee, hot chocolate or tea to warm up when they are done skiing or wish to take a break.

At the ski slopes, one of the first things you will notice is that there are plenty of staff members to assist skiers. You can pay them to have private or group lessons for instruction on how to ski if you have never skied before or need practice to get better and to gain confidence on yourself. Before any skier gets on the downward slopes, the ski staff makes sure that the skiers are properly trained and have plenty of experience so that injuries do not occur. Plus the staff members of the ski resort always carry first aid equipment with them to treat injuries.

I hope you enjoy your stay at the Catskill Mountains!
