A Sad Goodbye to Bennigans

Brian Munger
I am very sad to see countless Bennigans restaurants across America getting closed down. This was definitely one of my favorite establishments to visit. It was a place for all people, of all ages, to visit. It was good for fun family dinners. It was good for bringing a gal for a casual date before hitting a movie or comedy show. It was good for sitting at the bar and watching the big game on TV. It was good for grabbing a table and catching up with old friends while enjoying some of their tasty appetizers . . . especially those southwest egg rolls! God, I could eat those things all day long! They had some pretty tasty chicken wings, too! Their "mix and match" appetizer special was one of my favorite things to order. And I am sure there are plenty of other patrons who had extreme love for the mix and match appetizer menu, as well!

And who doesn't miss the trivia nights that some of them held every week? I know several people that were hardcore trivia night attendees. They must be thoroughly disappointed right now. Where are they going to play trivia now? And what about the extended drink specials that some of them offered? Who doesn't love 2 for 1's all night long? Or what about the pool tables that some of them offered? Who doesn't love a nice competitive game of pool while sipping on a cold brew?

I loved this place for the above reasons. I also loved it because it was never overcrowded or rowdy. No matter where you sat, you could always uphold a conversation without having to yell at the person across the table from you. They never had extremely large numbers of patrons, but there was always just enough to make you feel like you were part of a fun crowd. You never had to wait long for your order, either. I went to Bennigans on several occasions and not once do I remember having to wait an extended period of time to receive my food or drinks.

It's so sad to see this place go. It's a shame that it has come to this. Bennigans always had a nice atmosphere and was always affordable. Not only is it a shame for me and all of the other Bennigans lovers, but it is a shame for all of those cooks, waitresses, waiters and bartenders that are now unemployed. I always found the staff to be extremely personable and cheerful and I wish them the best of luck in finding new jobs in a timely manner.

Where do I go now? Applebees?
