A Safe College Party?

Here are some very helpful tips from an active college partying crowd. They party like the majority of young students, but they try their best to make sure nothing goes wrong. They know and expect alcohol and pot will be involved, and take a lot of precautions to avoid any trouble. To date there have been no fights, accidents, tickets or any police activity at all. The rules here are kind of strict, but they rarely have any problems.

The first thing is that they only attend or give parties by invitation, and they stick to the rule. Only twenty people are invited plus two sober watchdogs to chaperone. They charge a $20 cover to get in, and give $10 back when someone leaves. The $10 is refunded only if the person behaved and went by all the rules. The two watchdogs are paid from the cover charge as long as they do their job. This ensures that they will pay close attention to the situation at hand. One is on the wrestling team, and the other is a linebacker from the football team. Both are well qualified to stop any trouble before it even starts.

Upon entry each person gives up their car keys and their driver's license. These are returned when they leave as long as the sobriety situation is under control. This stops anyone from trying to sneak out for whatever reason. Most of the guests are all too happy to comply with this for their own sense of well being.

There is no pot, or pot smoking allowed inside the party. Anyone wishing to smoke the stuff must go outside away from the building. They go for a walk, or go sit in their car to get high. This way there are no illicit substances at the party that can cause legal issues for the hosts. It is impossible to stop the pot smoking, but the use can be controlled in such a way that there are no risks to the non-smokers involved.

All the guests are invited to bring their sleeping bags in case they need to crash there for the night. About half of the guests spend the night, then all go out for breakfast in the morning. Some guests ride with a driver that does not drink at all, and they all leave together when they are ready. No alcohol is allowed to leave the premises at all. It can be retrieved the following day if there is enough left to justify it.

These kids are pretty serious about keeping the situation under control. For what it is worth, this is a major law school we are talking about here. They are totally aware of all the ramifications of substance abuse problems. In 2007 there were 12,998 drinking related driving deaths in the united States. The 2008 statistics are not out yet. It is somewhat comforting to see some of the youth of today making a very credible effort to avoid trouble.
