A Sawed-Off Old Tree

Dedicated to a Late Friend Who, Inspite of a Hard Life, Reached for the Stars Until the Very End

I'm a sawed-off old tree

who lives at the end of town.

People have chopped short

my limbs

because I got in their way.

And then the children,

like the winds of many winters,

have

clipped

my leaves.

But still I stand upright,

stretching my stubs toward the sky.
