A Sawed-Off Old Tree
Dedicated to a Late Friend Who, Inspite of a Hard Life, Reached for the Stars Until the Very End
I'm a sawed-off old tree
who lives at the end of town.
People have chopped short
my limbs
because I got in their way.
And then the children,
like the winds of many winters,
have
clipped
my leaves.
But still I stand upright,
stretching my stubs toward the sky.
