Now it's all over but the barking as the dogs, handlers, owners and breeders pack up and head home. But for the top dog, her glory is just starting and the smile on her handler's face will be there for a long time. Hickory will be heading back to Warrenton , Virginia where she can be a dog and do what a dog should do, run and play.
Can you imagine wining your group on Monday night and then having to wait until very late on Tuesday to compete in Best In Show? For a dog that lives on a 50 acre property, being confined to Madison Square Garden must have felt a little strange to her, but she did just fine, good girl!
For some reason we love to see the underdog win and since Hickory wasn't on the radar, her win makes it even more special. According to Fox Sports, Hickory , an 85-pounder, beat out almost 2,600 other dogs to claim the title.
This Scottish Deerhound was in good company in the final show-down for Best In Show. How did she win? What did the judge see in Hickory ? The judge probably saw a dog that had heart and soul and she wagged her tail more than the other dogs to prove that fact!
When you get down to facts, all of the dogs at the dog show are winners. Unfortunately, only one can be the best, but we can't ignore the talent that has been on display for the last two days. Those dogs know what they have to do and they know how to do it, and they all did amazingly well!
So, until next year's Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, Hickory , the Scottish Deerhound, is the top dog, the Best in Show!

Post a CommentWhat a strange looking dog!
Excellent write up. Deerhounds are neat dogs.
Great report. Have you ever seen the hysterically funny mock-umentary about dog shows, "Best in Show?"
Can't help it, I think that dog is ugly. There were so many beautiful ones. but I know it's about breed standards, not adorability.
I liked the big white one with the dreds.
I saw the winner on TV, what a beautiful dog, I thought.
I watched on tv. Hickory is a beautiful dog
Saw this on the news last night. Very interesting.
Underdog becomes alpha. You gotta love it.
What a beautiful dog :) I saw a picture of Hickory on the morning news, good choice, cheers :)
