A Scripture from the Bible with Definitions, the 23rd Psalm 1-6

Psalms 23: 1-6 in the Bible with Definitions of the Word

Barbara K
Most all Christians have read "The Lord is my Shepherd" or Psalms 23 and even memorized this scripture. Many hold it dear to their heart or might say it is a favorite. It has so much promise in it. But, the words mean so much more when they are searched out. Sometimes we take the words just as we see or read them. We need to look for more

The LORD is my shepherd; (guardian, keeper, protector, and defender).
The Lord guards, keeps, protects and defends us at all times.

I shall not want (need or desire). He meets our needs and gives us the desires of our hearts.

He maketh me to lie (belong, dwell, rest) down in green pastures: (covering and growth) He makes us have a place to belong, dwell and rest. We will be in a growth and covering.

he leadeth ( to go before, guide, show the way) me beside the still waters (calm, peaceful). He goes before us to guide then show us the way in a calm and peaceful place.

He restoreth; (reestablish, to bring back into existence) my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness ( a course of action, conduct, or procedure) He reestablishes us and will bring our soul back into existence. He leads us on a course of action, conduct and procedure.

for his name's sake. (in or for his glory) In hope that the Lords' name will get the glory for our conduct, action and procedure in him.

Yea, though I walk through the valley (between mountains or low places) of the shadow (darkness, gloom and doubt) of death (extinction, destruction, without hope),

There are times we might walk between mountains and in low places. Although, we may feel we are in places of darkness or gloom. We may have some doubt even destruction with little hope. Even then we need not live in or have fear for he is with us always.

We will not fear (worry, afraid) no evil (bad, harmful, immoral, or wicked): We do not have to walk with worry or be afraid for the bad, harmful, immoral, or wicked for he is with us.

for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff (the word or words of the bible,) they comfort (giving a feeling of pleasure, peace, and contentment) me, He is with us, thy word or words give us a feeling of pleasure, peace, and contentment.

Thou preparest a table (a place to eat, arrangement of words) before me in the presence of mine enemies: (the Devil; Satan) He prepares a place for us to feast on his word in the presence of the Devil/ Satan.

thou anointest (to consecrate, dedicate,) my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (fast, quick, above and out the side, out of the top.) He consecrated and dedicated our head with oil; our cups fast and quickly went over the top of it.

Surely goodness (integrity, honesty, uprightness) and mercy (act of kindness, compassion, or favor) shall (expect to, determined to, definitely will) follow me all (every, completely) the days of my life: (the period of existence, activity,) and I will dwell (live, reside) in the house of the LORD forever. (always, continuously, eternally) Surly integrity, uprightness and favor, compassion with a act of kindness is determined to and definitely follow me. Completely with every day of our period of activity, existence and we will live or reside in the house of the Lord for eternally, always and continuously.

My hope is that everyone that reads this content will be blessed from the fullness of the word. Bless you all!
