Involve Children In Welcoming And Caring For Each Other
Whenever a new child comes to your quality preschool it is important that all of the children help to welcome them. This is because you will need to spend a lot of time integrating the new child into your classroom. Therefore, getting the other children involved as well will not only help your current children keep busy but help the new child feel emotionally welcomed by them.
The same is also true whenever children are leaving your quality preschool. They need an opportunity to say goodbye. You may even want to allow the other children to be able to make cards for them at this time.
Ensure Children Know That They Are Unique And Valuable
Everyone in your quality preschool needs to feel special and cared for. This is important to their learning and development. As a teacher you will need to learn what it takes for each child to feel this way. You should also consider having children bring in special items from home to share and even celebrating birthdays together in your quality preschool.
Create Plenty Of Opportunities For Children To Get Involved
You will also want to make sure that the children in your quality preschool are involved in developing the rules. This will increase their likelihood of following such rules. In doing so you will want to use pictures instead of words. You may also want to find some books on the topics (i.e. playing nicely together, sharing, taking turns) to read together. Herein you will have the opportunity to share with one another how it feels whenever one of these things happens in their classroom.
Prepare Children For Changes In Routine
A lot of children in your quality preschool are going to be reluctant to embrace change. However, change is a part of life and thus you should help them to understand this and learn coping strategies for dealing with it. One of the best ways to get started here is through talking with the children. Make sure that you show them that you are taking their concerns seriously and show them empathy as you do so though.
In Conclusion
Now that you know what must be done so that your quality preschool will have a secure emotional environment for the children therein, it is time to take some steps to make it happen. You cannot afford to put this off because your children are counting on you. Take some steps to make them feel emotionally secure today.
