Struggles within
And breathes its life into the softened soil.
Growing imperceptibly
A tiny shoot
Expands into a bough and reaches high.
The root gropes down and struggles
Clenching soil
To shatter rock and stone between its grip.
Ten years and twenty, forty more
The time has come.
The axe is thrust into the wood. It groans.
An envelope of fallen majesty
The sun shines down
Warming soil softened with the rain of spring.
In open spaces planters thrust
Hands into soil
And breathe the gift of life and hope anew.
