A Sensible Approach to Contextual Advertising

Efficient Contextual Advertising

Michelle Danae Meadowland
Google Adsense is a well-known advertiser which offers contextual advertising placements on one's website. Wordpress and Joomla are two content management systems which lend themselves well to Adsense placement and content management at the same time. There are many other contextual advertising systems, too numerous to mention, in fact.

Wordpress, although it is available on Wordpress.org and can be installed manually if you know how to configure databases, can be installed using a One Click Install available with web hosting if you choose the right hosting provider. Just Host and Fat Cow are two examples of web hosting companies which have made the Wordpress installation process easy with One Click install.

FileZilla FTP is a good file transfer protocol program to use to login to transfer your files back and forth. To keep the program active in between file transfers, go into Edit > Settings, and then Connection > FTP and Checkmark the box Send keep-alive settings. This will keep you from having to log in numerous times to get your tasks completed.

Smart Web Publishing
The smart web publisher will stop and think if the web surfer will actually look at the pages he creates. Google does not want pages that are just up for the sake of ads. If you were to take the ads off of the page you make, would it have any value whatsoever to humankind, or even yourself, for that matter? Or would it decompose down to a pile of junk, such as links to promote this, that, and the other thing, and links to what search engine you used. The smart web publisher would also consider layout and would make a page that looks nice. How many people actually like reading pale print on black backgrounds and do not get eyestrain? I just click back when I hit a page like that. It is the principle of the thing. You make a page on a dark background - I want anywhere BUT that page.

Slow down and think about a long term approach. Rome wasn't built in a day.
It takes time to appeal to a web audience. Even if you knew what the higher paying keywords are, it doesn't meant that people actually click on them. Take some time to read what is popular on the Internet. Go to social networking sites, news sites, places where real people hang out. What are they talking about? What is most popular in their conversation? Then, as you find topics that are appealing, popular, hot, and whatever you want to call it, then make a theme around that. Last of all, plop your ads in the page, and send it off to search engine. That's my 2 cents anyway, on this journey to learn how to make some money online but be genuine at the same time.

Here are some of my sources for templates which leave a designated spot for Adsense:
