A Sermon Illustration for Marriage and Sexuality Issues

A Brief Example

[Show videos or read articles about happy transgendered "men" and "women."] Ask, "Did the videos I showed you before bother you?" If they bothered you, why did they bother you? Did they bother you because you know it is rebellion against God, or did they bother you because it is "weird" or "gross" or "un-natural"? We must understand that it is just as sinful in God's eyes for us to reverse appearances and organs, making us something He never created us to be, as it is for us to reverse relationship and society male/female roles. What am I saying? I am saying exactly this: Though none of us in here would ever get a sex-change and become trans-gendered; we do realize that for wives to rebel against their husbands' authority as leaders is to live as if they have had a "sex-change"; and for men to refuse to lead their homes, submitting to their wives is also to live as if they have had a "sex-change".

We see people like this, and it is "bizarre" to us; and we may even look down on these individuals, but whenever we see a woman who "rules" her house, we often think nothing of it; or when we see a man refusing to lead his family in the Word, washing them, bringing them to church, pointing them to Christ, we think nothing of it. Why is it when men look like women and women look like men, it repulses us, but when men submit to their wives, and women rebel against their husband's authority we think nothing of it? Why does it bother us when a woman looks like a man, but it does not bother us whenever a woman leads like a man, and a man submits like a woman, etc.? Though God is repulsed by appearance reversal, He is equally repulsed by role reversal as well. Because of these truths, we should have a healthy displeasure with appearance and role reversal.
