A Short Biography of Actress Sandra Bullock

America's Sweetheart, Reincarnated Comedienne or Guardian Angel?

Frieda Knezek
Sandra Bullock's grandfather was a rocket scientist in Germany, yet she was bullied in middle school for not looking like an American kid. By the time she graduated high school, her peers had voted her "Most Likely to Brighten Up Your Day." Writer-director Marc Lawrence told Vogue he feels Sandra Bullock is the reincarnation of Lucille Ball. Nowadays, to many, Bullock has earned her place as America's Sweetheart.

Sandra Bullock's beginnings...
In 1964 Sandra Bullock was born in a suburb of Washington D.C. to a German opera singer and a voice teacher. She spent a good part of her childhood in Germany and Austria, performing with the chorus in whatever production her mother was in. They moved back to the States when Sandra was a teenager. After graduation, she went to East Carolina University, only to leave three credits short of completing her degree so that she could pursue acting. She moved to New York, supporting herself with odd jobs such as coat checker and cocktail waitress while studying under Sandford Meisner. Sandra Bullock's role in the off-Broadway production No Time Flat landed her an agent, leading to work in television then film.

Sandra Bullock's career explodes into action...
In the early nineties Sandra Bullock came to the attention of Jan de Bont who, against the studio execs' wishes for a buxom blonde, cast the trim brunette in the role of an action film. In 1994 Speed quickly became one of the most successful action movies ever made, launching Bullock's career. "Everyone told me to pass on Speed because it was a 'bus movie,'" says Sandra Bullock. Thank goodness she didn't listen.

Sandra Bullock, queen of rom-com (and everything else)
She spent the next decade filming hits such as While You Were Sleeping, 28 Days, Miss Congeniality, and The Lake House. What does the actress have to say about her well-deserved fame? "Fame means when your computer modem is broken, the repair guy comes out to your house a little faster." This is the same woman who decided, "I have no desire to maintain a lifestyle. I am a horrible celebrity. If I am out in public I dress like a pig."

Sandra Bullock reaches out...
In 2000, Sandra Bullock followed a little known comedian one hour outside of Los Angeles to watch him do a stand up act. Not long after that, Bullock developed a sitcom for him. "Who would have thought that my life would go from 'me, me, me' to 'George, George, George," joked Bullock to Variety in 2001. And the comedian? Latina Room tells us that George Lopez calls Sandra Bullock his "guardian angel" for saving him from a downward spiral of depression by launching the series.
It was in that same year that Sandra Bullock donated one million dollars to the American Red Cross after the terrorist attacks of 9-11. In 2004 she again donated a million dollars after the disastrous tsunami in Asia.

Sandra Bullock - Just getting started.
Bullock married Jesse James, the famous biker rebel from Monster Garage in July of 2005, a first time bride at age forty-one. 2009 brought her two Golden Globe nominations for her work in The Proposal and The Blind Side. In addition to acting and producing, she now owns a bakery and restaurant in Austin, Texas.
Has all this success gone to her head? When Sandra Bullock found out that she'd been nominated for two Golden Globes, she had this to say: "I am beyond stunned. Just to be included in the company of these amazing women I have so admired (sic) through the years ahs left me slack-jawed with awe."

Loved your article about Sandra Bullock. She's always been a favorite of mine, and it was interesting to read all the facts about her that I didn't know. She's so down-to-earth, unlike alot of other Hollywood actresses.
