A Short Biography of David Allen Wright of the New York Mets

David Allen Wright, born December 20, 1982 in Norfolk, Virginia, is a right-handed hitting third baseman (3B) in Major League Baseball (MLB) who plays for the New York Mets of the National League (NL) Eastern Division. He attended Hickory High School in Chesapeake, Virgina and was drafted by the New York Mets 38th overall in of the 2001 draft.

David Wright started out the 2004 season in AA with the Binghamton Mets. From there he was then promoted to the AAA Norfolk Tide. On July 21, 2004 David Wright made his major league debut at starting third base against the Montreal Expos. Since then he has started for the Mets at third base. During the 2004 season, in 69 games and 263 at bats, Wright hit .293 with 14 home runs and 40 runs batted in. He also stole six base without getting caught.

In the next season, 2005, his performance doubled. He came in the top ten for batting average, hits, total bases, RBIs, extra base hits, and runs. He was also noted for his diving bare-handed catch which was voted " This Year in Baseball Play of the Year." Wright batted .306 with 27 home runs and 102 RBIs. He stole 17 bases getting caught only seven times. This was also the same season Wright started the charitable organization, the David Wright Foundation.

Wright's 2006 season was much similar to the one he had in 2005. He batted .311 with 26 home runs and 116 RBIs. He also stole twenty stolen bases getting caught five times and hit for five triples too. David was also named National League Co-Player of the Week along with teammate Jose Reyes and "Player of the Month" in June. It was also the same season where Wright had some very heroic moments. Such as, when he hit his first game-winning hit on May 5. It was two weeks later when he hit a walkoff single in rally which beat the New York Yankees. On May 29 he hit another single off the wall which scored Jose Reyes all the way from first base to win it 8-7 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was voted to the 2006 All-Star game and came in second to Ryan Howard in the 2006 Home Run Derby. On August 6, 2006 Wright signed a 6-year extension worth $55 million. To finish off the season he particpated in the Major League Baseball Japan All-Star Series.

So far this 2007 season Wright is batting .276 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs. He also has 12 stolen bases without getting caught. Wright also posted seven homeruns in the month of May and still is swinging a hot bat. He is ranked second of all major league third basemen too.
