Pros
Rap music brings different races together; predominately white and black teenagers. Aerosmith is a band that helped to bridge the gap in the mid 1980's, when their song "Walk This Way" was collaborated on with rap group Run DMC in 1986. The collaboration introduced their hard rock fans to rap music.
Misconceptions
Heavy metal music in the mid to late 1980's was thought to insight teens into violence. Rap music is blamed for causing inner city youth to want to become like the gangs rapped about in rap music.
Self Expression
In actuality, rap music tells of the realities within a harsh urban environment, one that many people are unfamiliar with.
Facts
Most rap music is bought by white teenagers in suburban areas; roughly sixty-six percent.
DownsideGangsta rap, or "east coast vs. west coast," and derogatory lyrics contribute to the negative reputation rap music receives, even though there are many forms of positive rap music on the market.
