State and local policed responded to the disturbance and arrived on scene. It is unsure at this point if a student or non-student fired the shot. Thankfully nobody was reported as injured during the ruckus, which occurred after the school orchestrated campus event commenced. According to the police the crowd, which consisted of almost 300 people gathered outside of the Kehr Union and fights broke out amongst the groups, some say it is gang related, but that seems only speculation at this point. That is merely the "buzz" on campus.
One student was however arrested for allegedly assaulting a campus police officer. The student was subdued with pepper spray, and was charged with disorderly conduct, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. There was bedlam it seemed, as many people scattered and tried to understand what was going on, or scared of the situation at hand. There was a lot of reports of people screaming and yelling, and those who were fearful for their lives due to the gun shot.
The investigation shall continue until more information can be obtained. Officials for campus events have discussed boosts in security for the near distant future. In addition will alter their approach to promote safety for all of those on campus, or attending campus functions. Discussions were raised about metal detectors for future Kehr Union events.
The area's local news, featured the story perhaps somebody will speak up to bring those responsible to justice. Bloomsburg is known for being a very safe area, and it would be unfortunate for it to loose the image of the small college town atmosphere that many respect and remember fondly. Let us hope this is a isolated incident and that it doesn't lead to any more acts of violence in the days to come.
