FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A Silver Lining Foundation Teams up with Millie's Hallmark
for Breast Cancer Awareness
MOUNT PROSPECT, ILL. (September 2008) - At Millie's Hallmark (1024 S. Elmhurst Rd., Mount Prospect; 847-593-8288), many of the store's loyal customers have been touched by breast cancer. Recognizing the importance of raising breast cancer awareness, store co-owner Bill Reddy has teamed up with A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF) to help raise funds to provide uninsured and underinsured women with no-cost mammograms. From September 16 through November 1, the store will have two jars located at the cash registers where customers can place their spare change.
ASLF, founded by breast cancer survivor and NBC5 nutrition expert Dr. Sandy Goldberg, provides no-cost screening mammograms and breast cancer resources for uninsured patients. While the independently-owned Hallmark store has helped raise funds for local community organizations, this is the first time Millie's has teamed up with ASLF. Spare change from the store will be donated to ASLF's Buy A Mom A Mammogram™ program, which funds screening mammograms at Chicago-area hospitals.
"Many of our customers are women, and many have been touched by breast cancer. Some of them are survivors," says Reddy. "We feel we owe it to our customers to help out in any way we can to increase health resource awareness. We want to let our customers know that A Silver Lining provides excellent resources."
Millie's Hallmark will keep the jars in the store until November 1, after which the funds will be donated to ASLF. Reddy plans to include support for ASLF in the store's fall advertisements placed in the Daily Herald.
"We hope to keep this remarkable partnership alive in the future, and we thank Millie's Hallmark for being so dedicated to a cause that affects their customers," says Goldberg. "It's imperative for people in this community to know that ASLF provides these necessary resources that can help them through the tough times."
ASLF's Buy A Mom A Mammogram™ funds screening mammograms at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, South Shore Hospital in Chicago, and will add Swedish Covenant Hospital, Loyola University Health Systems and Sinai Health Systems in the near future. Since the Buy A Mom A Mammogram™ program's inception in 2006, ASLF has provided more than 3,000 women with information about and access to no-cost screening mammograms. In response to the growing number of women needing follow up due to a possible abnormality, the foundation began funding diagnostic testing in 2007.
ASLF's administrative offices are located at 134 N. LaSalle, Ste. 1218, Chicago, Ill. 60602. The organization runs three cancer related programs: Buy A Mom A Mammogram ™, the Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition (CCIC) and The Evelyn Goldberg Center at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago. For more information on ASLF, please call the ASLF administrative office at (312) 345-1322 or visit www.asilverliningfoundation.org.
