CHICAGO (August 2009)- Get ready for a fun filled evening in support of a breast cancer advocacy organization when A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF) hosts its fifth annual gala, A Sterling Event, kicking off with cocktails at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, October 3 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place (2233 S. Martin L. King Dr.).

At the black tie event, attendees will experience the sounds of famed cabaret singer Nan Mason, an eye-popping live auction and unique silent auction. Tickets are available for purchase at www.asilverliningfoundation.org for $300 per person, or $3,000 per table. In addition to the auctions, the evening will feature dinner and dancing to the music of Rhythm City.

"The evening will be a great opportunity to support a worthy cause, enjoy wonderful entertainment and celebrate life," said Dr. Sandy Goldberg, who formed ASLF in honor of her late mother. "We plan to show Chicago that there is truly a silver lining when it comes to helping those in need."

A Sterling Event will also honor Jewel-Osco President Keith Nielsen who will receive the Evy Award, given to an individual who perpetuates the legacy of Goldberg's mother, Evelyn "Evy" Goldberg.

"Keith Nielsen exemplifies my mother's philosophy..."we are all family and we have to help each other through the tough times"... in his unwavering dedication to A Silver Lining," says Goldberg. "Through the support of Keith, A Silver Lining has been able to accomplish goals and reach out to even more Chicagoans."

Launched in 2002 by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, a breast cancer survivor and NBC-5 nutrition expert, ASLF provides cancer related resource information including treatment options and support services to uninsured and underinsured individuals. All proceeds from A Sterling Event support ASLF's unique Buy A Mom A Mammogram™ program, which funds screening mammograms at Illinois partner hospitals. Since the Buy A Mom A Mammogram™ program's inception in 2006, ASLF has provided more than 3,000 women with information about and access to no cost screening mammograms. In response to the growing number of women needing follow up testing due to a suspicious screening mammogram, ASLF began funding diagnostic testing in 2007.

ALSF hopes to continue the success following last year's gala, which 327 Chicagoans and ASLF supporters attended, raising money for approximately 1,000+ mammograms for women living in the greater Chicagoland area. The fifth annual Sterling Eventwill be an event to remember.

ASLF's administrative offices are located at 134 N. LaSalle, Ste. 1218, Chicago, Ill. 60602. The organization runs three cancer related programs: Buy A Mom A Mammogram ™, the Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition (CCIC) and The Evelyn Goldberg Center at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago. For more information on ASLF or for tickets to A Sterling Event, please call the ASLF administrative office at (312) 345-1322 or visit www.asilverliningfoundation.org.
