There are some excellent natural products on the market to address Lyme Disease in Cats and Dogs. Here is a simple protocol to follow to assist in healing.

Antibiotics: If your pet has taken a prescription antibiotic, the gut will need to be rebalanced. Use Fast Balance GI after finishing antibiotics to achieve the quick replenishment.
Basic Protocol - Acute Infection:
1. Support the Gut and Bowel to enhance immunity - Use Probiotics: Start with Fast Balance GI if you have administered prescription antibiotics. Then switch to Acetylator or another probiotic for pets.
2. Eliminate Pathogens: Use a broad spectrum anti-microbial, like liquid Prima Una De Gato (TOA-Free Cat's Claw) if your pet is experiencing acute Lyme Disease. Adjust the doseage per the animal's body weight compared to a human's. After the acute phase, you may choose to switch to regular liquid Cat's Claw to save money.
*Administer the last dose prior to bed. Mix the drops in a bit of water, and administer direct to the animal's mouth via a plastic dropper. Best to administer 1/2 hour or more prior to meals.
*Please do not go overboard with TOA-Free dosing - even one drop can create Herxheimer reactions in the acute illness phase in humans. Too much too soon can create a life-threatening reaction in a small pet. Gradually and carefully work up the dose.
*Cat's Claw is primarily used for Lyme Disease, which is a bacteria. If your pet is experiencing a parasite infection, like Babesia, other anti-microbials can be incorporated.
3. Prevent Biofilms: Use MSM for pets and Seacure for Pets (fish protein) - in some studies, MSM as well as fish muscle supplements are shown to prevent the adhesion of pathogen biofilm to tissue.
4. Address lameness and muscle aches: Incorporate MSM for Pets or Vetri-CMO .
5. Support and detox the liver: Use Trifal Vet - Triphala for pets. Triphala helps clean and nourish the liver and gastrointestinal system. Triphala is an Ayurvedic formula that is adaptogenic, antibacterial, antiviral, anti fungal, anti yeast, antihistamine, and anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant. For cats, you may use or option for Vetri-Liver Feline.
6. Incorporate EFA's like extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, hemp seed oil, and flax seed into the diet. OmegaPet EFA is a tasty choice.
7. Topically address skin rash - If there is a persistent EM rash or granuloma at the site of the insect bite, apply Tea Tree Salve for at least 3 days. Then switch to Neem Oil until the rash subsides. If you need to use a head cone, then do so for at least 2 hours to allow the medication to penetrate and be more effective, rather than licked off.
Anti-Lyme Maintenance for Pets: After your pet is feeling better, maintain health with these options:
1. Use Perio-Support with each meal to introduce digestive enzymes and maintain healthy gut microflora. This is an excellent product to use year-round to support a healthy pet.
2. Use a broad spectrum anti-microbial, like liquid Prima Una De Gato (TOA-Free Cat's Claw) if your pet is experiencing acute Lyme Disease (see notes above for acute illness. Adjust the dosage per the animal's body weight compared to a human's. After the acute phase, you may choose to switch to regular liquid Cat's Claw to save money. We like Medik-Herb brand, because the taste is less bitter and incorporates glycerine.
We suggest dosing your healed pet each week on regular days to prevent and control re-infection. Administer the last dose prior to bed. Mix the drops in a bit of water, and administer direct to the animal's mouth via a plastic dropper. Best to administer 1/2 hour or more prior to meals.
3. Use a good pet multi-vitamin/mineral supplement with meals.
4. While your pet is healing, consider switching to high quality, organic foods.
Keep on hand:
1. Keep Tea Tree Essential Oil on hand to apply directly to a tick or insect bite. It has been shown that for up to two days after a tick bite, pathogens are deposited in the skin by a feeding tick at the site of the bite before they are released into the blood stream.
2. If you remove a feeding tick then apply Tea Tree Essential Oil or Tea Tree Salve for two days afterwards 2-3 times per day. Some research shows that the spirochetes in the skin are sensitive to topical antibiotics, and if some infections are caught soon enough, some infections can be prevented.
3. Keep a natural tick repellant, like Bugs Be Gone for Pets , on hand and spray your animal's coat whenever your pet will be exposed to areas where ticks are prevalent. We like Bugs Be Gone because the base is not greasy and it sprays on quick and easy.
