When you remove tarnish from silver you are actually taking a small layer of silver off with the tarnish. You can buy silver tarnishing products that will take the tarnish off of silver. Some of these products can remove the tarnish with a simply dip of the silver into their special liquid. Other tarnish removers work by polishing the tarnish off of the silver.
If you have ever spent time cleaning the tarnish off of your silver you know that it is hard work. You have to get the tarnish off with the chemical and then you have to wash the chemical off of the silver because if it is left on the silver it can ruin the silver even more.
The next time you remover tarnish from some silver add a couple pieces of chalk to the place where you store your silver.
If you keep silverware in a special drawer then put a couple pieces of chalk into the drawer along with the silver.
Jewelry boxes have many silver pieces inside. If you keep a couple pieces of chalk in with the jewelry then the chalk will help to keep the silver jewelry looking its best.
When chalk is allowed to sit with silver the chalk will absorb the moisture that is in the area that the silverware is being kept. When the moisture is absorbed then it will take longer for silver to tarnish since it takes some moisture to tarnish silver.
Silver looks better when it is clean and shiny. Bright silver is more appealing then tarnished silver. Silver is hard to clean and to keep clean. If you can do something as simple as putting a piece of chalk in with your silver to keep it from tarnishing then it is worth doing.
Chalk is inexpensive and does not take much room in a space. By putting a couple pieces of chalk in with your expensive silver you can reduce all the time you take cleaning your silver since the chalk will help to maintain the brilliance of silver.
Chalk will not clean your silver but it will slow down the tarnishing process of silver.
