A Skyline View of Atlanta

Sunshine Wilson
Atlantans and visitors to the city can enjoy a view of Atlanta and it's skyline from many locations. The impressive cityscape includes many skyscrapers, including the 55 story Bank of America Plaza, the 36th tallest building in the world at 1023 feet and the SunTrust Plaza, the 77th tallest building in the world at 870 feet. Other high rise buildings of the skyline are One Atlantic Center, 191 Peachtree Tower, the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, the Georgia-Pacific Tower, Promenade II, the AT&T Midtown Center, the Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta, the Mansion on Peachtree and Centennial Tower.

View from Stone Mountain

The summit of Stone Mountain, located in Stone Mountain Park in the town of Stone Mountain, Georgia, about ten miles east of Atlanta, is a popular tourist attraction. The 1,886 foot elevation provides a breathtaking skyline view of Atlanta and the surrounding metro area. Visits should be planned on clear days, since fog may develop on rainy or cloudy days, diminishing the view. Visitors may hike up the 1.3 mile trail to the top of the mountain or ride the Summit Skyride, a Swiss cable car, to the summit.

View from Kennesaw Mountain

Kennesaw Mountain is located in Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in Kennesaw, Georgia, about twenty miles northwest of Atlanta. The mountain's 1808 elevation offers an impressive view of Atlanta and the northern metro area on a clear day. To reach the summit, visitors may walk up the 1.2 mile trail or, on weekdays, drive up to the top. Since the road is closed on weekends, a shuttle service is provided.

View from Local Hotels within the City

Although views may be seen from the guest rooms of a number of Atlanta hotels, three hotels provide an amazing panoramic view of Atlanta from within the city.

Atop the Glenn Hotel, located at 110 Marietta Street in Atlanta, is their Sky Lounge Rooftop Bar. Eleven stories high, this bar offers visitors an incredible view of the cityscape while listening to a DJ playing 80's and 90's music.

On the 30th floor of the Hilton Atlanta, located at 255 Courtland Street in Atlanta, is Nikolai's Roof, one of Atlanta's finest restaurants. While dining at this establishment, patrons may enjoy a remarkable view of Atlanta.

Perhaps the most impressive view of Atlanta can be seen from the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel located at 210 Peachtree Street in Atlanta. Atop this 73 story, 723 foot high hotel, the observation deck offers a spectacular 360 degree panoramic view of Atlanta. One floor below, visitors may enjoy the revolving view with cocktails at the Sun Dial Bar, a revolving upscale cocktail lounge. Located one floor below the bar, The Sun Dial Restaurant also offers a revolving view of Atlanta along with fine dining.

Aerial View

The more adventuresome visitors may prefer a view from up above. Aerial tours are available from several Atlanta tour guide businesses. Air Atlanta Helicopters provide helicopter tours; Balloons Over Georgia offer hot air balloon tours and Biplane Rides Over Atlanta have biplane tours available. All three options are a unique way to experience an incredible, one of a kind view of Atlanta.

I guess if you like views of big cities, these are great places. I prefer vistas over canyons in the Allegheny Wilds!

I clicked on the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in Kennesaw, and loved the look of it and the old canons. What a beautiful state.
