A Slanket Makes the Perfect Christmas Gift for Almost Anyone

What Better Gift for Christmas Than One that Will Keep Someone Warm

Tony Payne
First came the Snuggie, a fleece blanket that had sleeves in it, so that the wearer can sit on the couch, put their arms through the sleeves, and remain covered up while their arms are still free to do things.

While everyone must have seen television commercials for the Snuggie, which is one of the popular As Seen On TV products, and many people will have no doubt purchased them, but the reality is that the Snuggie has had some bad reviews.

The fleece from which the Snuggie is made is very thin and lightweight (it has been referred to as one step up from a hospital gown), which means that it doesn't provide as much warmth as one would like, especially on a really cold day.

The other problem is the length of the Snuggie, which is basically far too short, so although it's intention is to keep you warm, the bottom of your legs and also your feet remain exposed to the elements.

Being of thin fleece the Snuggie also suffers like most fleeces from S-T-A-T-I-C and is fun for making your hairs stand on end, but not so nice when it gives you electric shocks!

But at a price that began around $15 and has dropped to as little as $5 in some places, the Snuggie is a bargain, but as always you only get what you pay for.

This is what I was going to buy my wife for her birthday this year, since she gets cold, even in the summer (her birthday is in July), and her feet especially get cold all year round. But as soon as I started to look around for places to buy a Snuggie in the UK, I quickly realized that the reviews didn't make the Snuggie live up to it's advertised reputation, and there were also alternatives that supposedly did.

While I did look at several other types of sleeved blanket, like the Freedom Blanket and Blankoat, they didn't really inspire me, however one product did, and that is the Slanket.

I was a little peeved at the price of the Slanket, which varies from $30 to $40 on Amazon, and the one in this link is the one which I finally decided on for my wife.

Everywhere I looked to buy a Slanket I found nothing but good reviews, including the weight of the material, and the size (it's 60" x 95") and more than long enough for people over six feet tall.

The Slanket is amazingly big and spacious inside, with wide sleeves that don't hamper your arm movement, so whether you are working on a laptop or doing crafts, knitting etc, the Slanket won't get in your way.

My wife is about 5'8", and when she sits on the couch and reclines back with her Slanket over her, there is at least a foot of material still hanging over her feet, and it always keeps her snug and warm.

The Slanket is also quite wide, so when we sit side by side there is enough material to half cover me as well, not that I feel the cold that much, but it's definitely well worth paying the extra money for a product that really does do what it is advertised to do.

When it comes to maintaining your Slanket, you just throw it in the washing machine like you would do any other blanket, and it doesn't show any signs of wear even after numerous washes.

The Slanket comes in a wide variety of colors, something to suite everyone, both male and female, and they are really worth every penny.

The only problem that we have found, and this is a niggly one, is that there is no label on the Slanket between the sleeves, so when you pick it up, and it is very large, it's not always immediately obvious where the sleeves are and which is the top.

So if you know anyone who feels the cold, or enjoys sitting watching the television on cold winter evenings, I think the Slanket would make a wonderful Christmas gift.

Your Grandmother or Great Aunt would probably never stop talking about you and your precious gift, so if you want to be popular this Christmas, this is my suggestion for the perfect gift.

In case you were wondering, YES the Slanket is available in both the USA and the UK and in other countries as well. Amazon certainly does sell a wide variety of colors and is where we picked ours up from, since the Free Shipping makes a difference to the overall price, and they will also Gift Wrap items if you want to have them shipped direct.

We don't have any connection to the companies that manufacture or sell either the Snuggie or the Slanket, this review is based on what the author has read and on personal experience.

@Cassandra It's the coldest winter for 120 years they reckon, with lots more snow and sub-zero temperatures headed our way before the week ends. It's not a pleasant one that's for sure.

Okay that looks cool, but doubt I'd ever need one in Thailand. I hear it's bloody cold in England though. am dreading it when we arrive in Jan!!

Hope it is better than the Snuggie. I hated that thing.

I have a really warm, fuzzy robe that I like to wear. It doesn't cover my feet, but I wear warm socks and slippers. Thanks for the review, though.

    Sounds good!

Backwards robes are still the best.
