A Slight Paraphrase

Rewording Scripture Can Sometimes Bring Out More Meaning

Bud Young
Sometimes a scripture speaks to me with words that are slightly different than the words chosen for the translation. This tends to make them more meaningful for me. Let me know if this is true for you.

NIV

John 7:37-38

. . ."if anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."

What this scripture says to me:

"If anyone is thirsty for spiritual knowledge let him talk to me and learn. Whoever applies my teaching as the Scripture has said, streams of living knowledge will flow from within him.

I have a t-shirt that says "Heavy Drinker" on the front. On the back it has Jesus' words from John 7:37. Being a recovered alcoholic this shirt and scripture are very special to me.

NIV

Matt 11:28-30

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

What this scripture says to me:

Talk to me, all you who are stressed out and tired and I will teach you how to rest. Take my lessons with you and apply them to your lives, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my lessons make life easy and life's burdens light.

I have to frequently remind myself, that Christ, is not just my Lord and Savior. He is also my teacher, confidant, and comforter.

NIV

Isaiah 55:3

Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live.

What this scripture says to me:

Listen and talk to me that your soul may live.

Fellowship with God is so important for living a loving lifestyle in the here and now.

Here's one of my favorite verses, and it applies to your context here: "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (Hebrews 4:16, niv).

Great job bro, it does speak the true message of Christ.
To many people get it confused with religion, religion is a man made concept.
Christ wants a relationship with us.
For example just today i was stressed out from the usual junk money problems and such, then my daughter was acting out of line and I kept getting angry.
I got to a point were I just said I'm going to go downstairs to pray by myself and take a time out, after a few minutes of heartfelt prayer begging Christ to release this anger. i felt at ease and calm agin.
Went out side and it was almost like a Disney movie Birds were fluttering around my back deck, chipmunks and squirrels were chasing each other around tree trunks.
And i knew peace had been restored.

Praise God glad i subscribed to your content, came at the perfect time.
Keep up the great work bro!
    God Bless
    T.

Yeshuan, God knew that I would need these words more tonight than I did this morning...I clicked on this one this morning but received a phone call about my Grandaughter, right as I was reading the first lines.... I didn't finish reading it. Thank you so very much for this inspiration tonight. It is such a blessing to have all of you, my friends on AC, sent from God, to build one another up when we get weary, and lose sight of his light sometimes. God Bless You.+*+*+* PEACE
