A Smokey Hazard: 5 More Reasons to Stop Smoking Now

Really, has anyone ever quit smoking because they flipped their carton of cigarettes over and read the Surgeon General's warning? The answer is not likely! The warning is clearly printed on each carton yet people are still smoking. The addiction to the nicotine keeps people from protecting themselves from the dangerous side effects of smoking.

The lungs are a vital organ, but they are only one of the organs which become adversely affected by smoking cigarettes. You may be willing to forgo your lungs to cancer or emphysema for the next cigarette, but are you willing to subject your entire body to other debilitating diseases? Consider this:

Recent studies show smoking can lead to Lupus. This disease swells your joints and eats away at your bodies tissues. This and other autoimmune diseases are what you subject your body to when you smoke. On a positive note, if you quite smoking you reduce your chances of developing this disease greatly.

You could go blind! Research has proven that smokers are up to four times susceptible to age-related blindness than non-smokers. Nearly a quarter of the individuals who suffer from macular degeneration are smokers or were smokers in the past.

If you are pregnant you should refrain entirely from smoking and from being in smoky areas. Pregnant smokers run a higher risk of having babies who suffer from sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS and are also more likely to have colic.

Your smoking habit could also be the underlying cause of your infertility and impotence! Think of the money you could save between not purchasing cigarettes and not having to pay for your medication for ED (erectile dysfunction)!

Your mind will degenerate about five times faster than that of a non-smoker. After the age of 65 studies have shown that the minds of smokers degenerate much quicker than those of non-smokers.

All of these bodily dysfunctions are caused by that one nicotine carrier, and you pay for it, twice! You pay for the carton and then you pay with your medical expenses and your health. The list doesn't stop there either, you still have increased blood clotting, artery damage, higher risk of stroke and accelerated Alzheimer's disease to deal with.

Maybe the Surgeon General's warning just isn't enough, perhaps you should receive an entire pamphlet of health related risks each time you purchase cigarettes; similar to the way you get the possible side effect notices on prescribed medications. Do you think that would help?
