A Soldier and His Grandfather Saved by Rosary

Was it Fate or was it Just Coincidence that Saved Their Lives

Private Glenn Hockton of the Coldstream Guards was on a seven month tour of duty in Afghanistan, and had what you might call a miraculous escape from what could have been sudden death, or at the least severe injuries.

Before he was deployed to Afghanistan, Glenn, who is 19, asked if he could take a set of Rosary beads with him.

While out on patrol, he felt the Rosary fall from his neck, and when he bent down to pick it up, he saw that he was standing on a landmine.

He had to stand motionless for a good 45 minutes, while the other members of his patrol managed to disarm the landmine and prevent it from detonating, and if it had not been for the Rosary beads falling at that point, he might not be around today to tell the tale.

This story on it's own is pretty miraculous, but when you combine this with the fact that his Great Grandfather Joseph Sunny Truman was also saved by a set of Rosary beads in World War Two, it makes you wonder.

Joseph, who served in the Royal Regiment Of Fusiliers, was walking across a field with half a dozen of his platoon, having been taken prisoner, and being led away from the advancing Allied Forces.

He saw something on the ground, stooped to pick it up, right as a bomb exploded, and he was the only one of his platoon to survive.

It was only then that he found he had picked up a set of Rosary beads.

Glenn has now returned from Afghanistan, much to the relief of his family.

It's an amazing set of coincidences don't you think?
