A Solution to the Economic Nightmare of the United States

Sharyl Stockstill
The economy is struggling and unemployment is high. People are out of work and college graduates are lucky to find a job flipping hamburgers. When someone does find a job, Uncle Sam is sitting there with his hand out waiting for his share of the employee's hard work. The American worker's morale is low. There does not seem to be any way out of the current mess, but maybe there is.

America Needs More Jobs at All Levels of Experience:

It is time to look at improving the United State's economy, even at the short-term cost of global economy. Labor costs in the United States are high when compared to labor costs in other countries. Numerous plants and factories have closed up shop in the United States and moved to where the labor was cheaper. It is time to bring back those plants and factories to the United States so that the unemployed labor force can have an opportunity to find good work and to regain the nation's pride. Jobs are needed for every level of experience from entry level high school graduates to college graduates who should be rewarded with more than flipping burgers. Experienced workers should be able to easily locate a new position which pays as much or more than their previous position.

Encourage Plants and Factories to Return Home to America:

The US Customs is the second highest source of revenue for the United States. Import taxes and tariffs are charged on every item that enters this country. If tariffs and taxes were raised on imports, the benefit of using cheap labor overseas would be negated. This would have giant corporations rethinking their position of outsourcing manufacturing jobs and reopening factories across the United States. This will create a surge of employment opportunities as all skill levels and educational backgrounds would be necessary to fill the positions.

The higher cost of buying an imported car or television would provide the United States companies with the leverage necessary to compete against a more cheaply made product.

Encourage and Reward Americans Who Work

No one likes to work if they are going to be handing their hard earned money over to someone else, even if that person is Uncle Sam. Americans who work have more pride, access to health insurance, and opportunities to invest in retirement plans. This all leads to a stronger economy. To encourage and support the working American, the income tax should be eliminated on the first $50,000 each American earns through their paycheck. By eliminating the first $50,000 of earned income for each American, couples could earn up to $100,000 without worrying about income taxes. This would provide opportunities for investing in education, personal retirement accounts and homes. It would also increase a person's ability to eliminate their personal debt. The lost revenue from the income taxes would be replaced by the higher import taxes.

It is time for the United States to bring jobs back to the unemployed and underemployed. This nation's economic struggles need to be focused on before worrying about the United States position as a global leader. America is only as strong as her citizens, and right now, America is in trouble.
