A Song About Innocence

C. Moss
Verse

We were running
In the schoolyard full of dreams
All dressed up, too young to care
And those reoccurring themes
They were killing me to move on

Running in circles
Dancing with the brightest eyes
I could almost catch you
Something a smile just can't disguise
I saw you looking in my direction

Chorus

So we've got to move forward
We can't reinvent the memories
A relaxing exposition of our years
As yesterday's child is gone for good
We're just too good
But age is just a number
Times were spent finding our own melody
All those years ago have gone cold
The fidelity of perfect reason
A sign of hope is on the horizon
So I've been told

Verse

The sun in the west goes down
As my heart beats faster
I give in and settle for the moon
But it wasn't what I was after
I need you like the stars need the night

Proved me wrong with a dare
You can touch the sky
And we both jumped higher
The game has now passed us by
The tragic end of innocence

Chorus

So we've got to move forward
We can't reinvent the memories
A relaxing exposition of our years
As yesterday's child is gone for good
We're just too good
But age is just a number
Times were spent finding our own melody
All those years ago have gone cold
The fidelity of perfect reason
A sign of hope is on the horizon
So I've been told
I've been told

Bridge

There's no magic quite like being
Young and those significant days
Of demanding fun left in history
I can tell it's still a mystery
Inside I'm dying to hold you
Hold on to those better years

Outro

We were running
In the schoolyard full of dreams
And I could almost catch you
The game has now passed us by
So I've been told

Cool poem. Childhood is much shorter than adulthood, nothing wrong with those memories and wanting to have them back.
